I bid on and won a revell 1:35 scale Fuchs armored personnel carrier on ebay. But I received a Fuchs Nuclear-Biological-Chemical warfare vehicle instead.
Beside the NBC sensors and sampling tool package on the back of the vehicle, are there any other differences between APC and NBC versions?
Revell's NBC version appear to also include a extra unused rear bulkhead with plain side-hinged doors. I assume this is for the APC version. Does the NBC version of the kit include all the parts for the APC version?
Also, NBC Fuchs appears to be amphibious with propeller for water travel. But photos of APC Fuchs I've found show no propellers. Were propellers removed at some time in its service life?
Thanks.

If I'm correct, the NBC kit gets all the parts needed to turn in into a APC version.
I should have a copy of the instructions at home. It could help you.
All is sure is the kit depicts a standard Fuchs without any add-on armor.
Just send me your email.
Olivier

Hi Chuck,
I second Olivier. You can build an APC version out of the NBCRV but not vice versa.
As for an APC or other version you have to decide first what version do you plan to build. The TPZ Fuchs family has very much members.
Just some examples
- Panzeraufklärungsgruppe (Armored Recon)
- Pioniergruppe (Engineer)
- Pionierführung (Engineer Command)
- Sanität ( MEDEVAC)
- Führung/Funk (Command and Control)
- Radargerät RASIT (RASIT Surveillance Radar)
- Flugabwehr Führung (Airdefence Command)
- Various ECM versions
Hans-Hermann
PS. The Fuchs still retain the swimming propellers. Only on the latest up-armored versions the propellers have been deleted. As Olivier said, the RoG kit despices an early model without Zusatzpanzerung.

if I may add: as much as I like the Fuchs and appreciate the fact that Revell offer(ed) this kit, it has to be said that the front part of the hull is quite wrong and to correct it requires quite some effort. Another shortcoming of the kit is the empty drivers compartment. And with empty I mean eeeeeempty. Here MR-Modellbau offers relieve. They do have some more detailling stuff for the fuchs. It is worth to check their homepage (mrmodellbau.com). Think about replacing the wheels (to my knowledge Signifer, Real Modell and MR Modellbau offer choices). The detailling set from Voyager is a pearl and if PE does not repell you think about accquiring one. Do NOT use the Eduard PE set as it contains quite some mistakes.
But even if you decide to build it out of the box it can turn out into a very nice modell. It is a Fuchs after all
enjoy

Thank you.
I looked over the kit. Indeed there is nothing but an empty box for the hull. I will need to scratch build driver station because it is fully visible through the windscreen.
Is the driver station segregated from the rear compartment by any bulkheads? Or is the entire interior more or less visible through the windscreen and needs to be built?
Also, I intend to remove the molded on side doors with their permanently closed side window shutters. I will scratch build new doors with open shutters if I have to go through the trouble of scratch building the driver stations.
BTW, it appears from Revell's depiction that the suspension, differential and live axles for the Fuchs is basically identical to those on the Luchs, except of course Fuchs has 3 axles and the other 4; and the main suspension springs on the Fuchs are mounted on the hull instead of on balance beams as with Luchs. Can anyone confirm this?

Hi Chuck,
MR Modellbau does an exterior update set and a drivers compartment. I have them both and they are very good. http://www.mrmodellbau.com/_shop/product_info.php?products_id=87
Will save you a lot of scratchbuilding.
MR Modellbau also does an exterior updates with new armored shutters and an open roof hatch.

And yes, the axles and suspension are are the same as on the Spähpanzer Luchs.

Although the rear wall of the drivers compartment does not extent over the whole of the compartment you do not need to scratch the whole interieur as about 4/5th of the view is blocked by the rear wall in the real vehicle. What is left is kind of a small channel on the right side thats connects drivers and rear compartment. Here is a pic: http://www.panzer-modell.de/referenz/in_detail/fuchs_pio/021g.jpg. But as I wrote before and Hans-Hermann confirmed: MR-Modellbaus drivers compartment saves you a lot of trouble (or you close the bullet shield in front of the front window or you shade the window from the inside for example with Tamiya Smoke to prevent looking into the interieur).
