I am building a 4'x8' 1/35 diorama of Mogadishu of 3 OCT 93. It will be displayed at both Ft Benning and Ft Campbell. It is dedicated to my brothers who fought with me there.
I have scratch built the section of town where 61 crashed from pictures and memory. Here is my problem.... I need about 200 total Somali civilians and civilian combatants. I have used up all the Arab Resin kits that I could convert, but looking at it, it makes it look like we had the upper hand on the ratio of personnel. I want people that view it to get the sense of what it was like for us.
So I ask of you all, please direct me to any place that I may find... 1/32, 1/35, 2", 54mm, or close of BLACK African soldiers, civilians, men, women and children. I dont care if they are plastic, pewter, lead, or resin. Even if I have to work them before I paint, it is all good.
If any of you have any used lots to sale, let me know. Like I said, I want to add another 200 or so to give the diorama that sense of Danger that can not happen with the 80 or so I already have in place.
The higher detail will be at the front of the mobs, so I am also good with some of less detail to fill the voids. I hope someone here can help.
Thanks, LeQuoix

Warriors has some Militia and tank crew.Masterbox Insurgents can be used if you change heads. Hornet african heads can be used for many plastic figures if you change them to Somalians with some putty. This link can be useful for you.

What do you know? I was planning the exact same thing. I wanted to depict the two Delta Medal of Honor recipients. If you need any help with the research, I have been collecting reference material for some time.

Sorry, no help on the additional Africans. It sounds like you have found just about all that is out there. You may try Preiser. They have a pretty good selection of 1/32 figures.
For info on the aircraft, I can help. Check out this thread at Aeroscale. Also, Werner's Wings now has Nightstalker decals for most of the helos as well. There are alos pictures of teh crash scenes in my linked Photobucket gallery at the end of the above thread.

Randy and Gary were friends of mine. I thought of doing the scene, but my rage at what happened after the fight would ruin my mood. If there is anything you need, I will offer you my input. They were great guys and truly the example of what "Warrior" means.
I have worked on this diorama for 4 years. It has been my therapy.

Hi guys,
What a great tribute to honor these men.
Looking forward to see the start.
Though, I have one thing bothering me: the African Hornet heads are a bit of a joke!
Be fair: overdimensioned mouth, and not even close to the fine facial expressions of Ethiopians......
By the way (having been there and spoken often to Ethiopian men) the consider themselves closer to white than black!!!
I would go for the insurgents as they are.
But, that is just my point of view.
Respect for the work you want to do!

Would Meng's Arab Civilians work? Considering Somalia is a Muslim country I would think they could be useful, at least as filler in the crowd.
In the September 2013 issue of Fine Scale Modeller there's a fantastic diorama with Durant, Gordan and Shughart. It's as good as any tribute that I've seen.
Thanks for your service. I hope one day we can see your diorama.

Thank you for your service and the work you are doing on this tribute. It sounds great. Any chance you could post some pictures of it?
Also, while I have your ear...
I helped Warner's Wings on the Nightstalker decals. We are working on another set with the missing aircraft from the first sheet from Op Gothic Serpent. We have most of them, but can't confirm Super 67. We believe it was "Texas Express" with the word and a sylized lasso for the P in ExPress on the engine necelles. Do you know anything about it, tail number, and possibly have any pics of it? Any other info you may have on the helos would also be helpful. You can look back at my prior posted link to see much of what we have.

I will look through my pictures. I have a few personal ones, that she may be in. No promises. Pics of the diorama will be up when she is done. I am not building it for any fame. There is a lot of emotion on this subject, and I want it to be perfect before it goes public. The reason I brought it up on here was for the purpose of explaining what I needed. It is a very personal place for me, and building it has helped me with a lot of thought. I hope you understand.
When I feel it is complete, I will post pics of it.

Sixty?
I'm glad you have an outlet for dealing with whatever you need to. Not all veterans are that lucky. Good luck with the project.

Yeah, 62 of them. Most of the rest are Verlinden. I have 86 or so total Somalis on there as of now. I have about 30 more that are in various states of building. I want to have 300 Somalis on the diorama before I am done.

Warriors makes an African Militiaman. Try Germany's Sockelshop.

http://ecomodelismo.com/african-militiaman-Ref-WARR-35505.html
You could also try Warriors NVA and Chechen.

The other option I would suggest is to use Viet Cong and NVA troops for the AK chest rig and civilian shirts and pants. You would need to putty up the sandals and change the head and straw hats. DML, Warriors, Verlinden, and Bravo-6 make Viet Cong figures.
Try MAIM as well...they make 1/35 civilian women and children.
