I know the SAS usually worked independently, but would they ever have been seen in company with an Airborne column, ie., Dragon SAS jeep with Bronco Airborne jeep/trailer, or /6lb'er combo? Or any reason at all why the two would be included in the same dio?

The only time I could possibly see that happening is when the AB orces were withdrawn from Normandy for reembarkation to the UK although I doubt it very much.

Why not? Airborne forces moving up/through the SAS position to assault a target, withdrawn together to a rest area, orders group for an attack perhaps, meeting up with maps out, one lost the other one not.

I would think there is plenty of potential for meeting up during the chaos of an operation, lots of people ending up in the wrong place etc.

I guess it depends on what you have in mind for the dioarama and the story behind it.

Good luck!

Perhaps an Airborne jeep/6lb'er combo parked on the side of a road with figures by Master Box discussing directions and consulting a map, being passed by the SAS jeep. Or asking the SAS driver, "Which way to the front?".

Hi Al,

Believe it is possible that British paratroopers and SAS jeeps could have met up during the Normandy campaign. 6th Airborne Division were operating in Normandy from D-Day until the end of August (nearly 3 months) as part of 1st Canadian Army - advancing in the left flank and hugging the coast all the way up to the mouth of the River Seine. As crack and specialised troops, 6th Airborne should have been withdrawn after D-Day, but such was the shortage of infantry, they were kept back. The SAS jeeps were landed in Normandy and were continually harrassing behind enemy lines. Guess it is then a question if the any of these operations were in the same area as the paras.

I don't remember any mention of working with or around the British Airborne Divisions in "Stirling's Men" which is a great read, but a quick search leads to the Belgian SAS site where it says

Quoted Text

In November 1944, the unit was regrouped and equipped with armoured jeeps. During von Rundstedt’s offensive in the Belgian Ardennes – the Battle of the Bulge – the Belgian SAS acted as a reconnaissance squadron, in which they executed security and reconnaissance missions in support of the 6th British Airborne Division.
