Hoping Dave can weight in here....
This is the Tamiya Initial (africa) to which I'm adding the voyager PE fenders. I used the kit part to get a "line" on where the tops of the fenders should be but it doesn't look quite right to me...
The front half is not perfectly parallel to the bottom of the sponson per Dave's drawing:
I'm not sure if I should lower the rear line a bit and then correct the angle for the front half, or if I should simply correct the front half using the existing rear line as a starting place (I think if I do the later, the front most fender will be too high).

Well, I don't know offhand if the kit has shape problems, such as the sponson being too tall? The front portion, where the bottom is level, should be 14mm tall. Problems here would affect the look and fit of the fenders.
But, all other things being correct, your fender bolts should be 4.6mm from the bottom of the sponson's two long portions.

Thanks David.
I'll have to check the overall height measurements tonight, but yesterday I did measure the line (being the "top" of the bolts), and its 7mm above the bottom right now (the rear most portion at least).
So it definitely seems the line taken from the kit fender part is too high overall anyway.

Is that 4.6mm to the bottom of the bolts, the top, or the center?
Thanks.

That's to the centers of the bolts.

Seems like everybody is building an African Tiger at the mo
I haven't quite got that far yet, fenders are always one of my last parts to fit. It's a good few hours since I looked at the kit, but I recall there is a feint line in the plastic that I assumed was the top line for the fenders. Forgive my ignorance, as I said until now I hadn't given it any thought. But are you saying this line is in the wrong place, if so can you see the line if you mount the fenders a la Bryden?

I took that line to be a molding issue and sanded it into oblivion. I dont think it had anything to do with the fender or its position (or if it did, it was for the sake of later version kits which use the same hull part).

Yea I noticed that too which is really bizarre. I know for my part I've been meaning to do this project for years and just up and decided last month to get on it...and then I see everyone and their brother is doing something similar. Someone even cribbed my idea for camels! LOL. Crazy.
