The fourth On Track Model Show took place in its usual seaside home on 1 March 2014. Matthew Lenton brings back photos of the competition entries.

I must just apologise to Chris Meddings for chopping off the figure on the top of his Churchill AVRE Fascine - in the photo that is, not literally.

A fine show indeed! (And that scratched Best-in-Show was a truly marvellous thing up-close...) The competition was perhaps not as full as could be, but the standards were extremely high. Of course some of us just went along on the off-chance of meeting other Big A staffers! (Hi Matthew! )

Very nice feature (event) report, that shows us on this side of the pond an example of a model show out your way. So, there are only two small scale categories? That would be rather disappointing as an "all types" category leads to comparing "apples to oranges". As over here, I am sure each show is somewhat different. Still, it is interesting to see what one would be up against. Thanks for sharing.

As the Competition Officer for On Track, I would point out that there are indeed two small scale classes, and only three for larger scales. The other 5 classes (only 10 altogether) are for ships, aircraft, figures/busts, junior entrants and a Miscellaneous class to catch anything else. There has to be a bit of 'chalk and cheese' comparison with so few classes. But we only had 100 entries across all categories. Chris

Thanks for providing a clarification about your show. My question was based on the shows that I have attended in Southern Ontario and Western New York. Most of them generally have 50 to 70 sub-categories to be judged and average between 400 and 500+ entries.

This sounds like what we call a Collection over here and it is a separate category. These require a minimal of five models of a similar theme or subject. An example that I've seen is a dozen 1/72 scale Spitfires, each of a different Mark and markings.

Just the point I was making, Jan. On this side of the pond, it's commonplace to see groups of Spits and P-51s, but Stukas?? Most of the shows I go to you're lucky if you have one entered. It's actually a pleasant change.
