Ok we all know this kit, well most of us , and I take it Airfix is displaying an African scene
The question is, were there Panthers in the Afrika Korps ?
If yes were they the straight Ausf.D, or were there some tropical changes to the vehicle?
I can't find anything to prove or disprove that these vehicles
where there, albeit in the final days of the AK.
Any info would be well appreciated here, as this could be a build for a certain campaign. (Desertised starting the 1st of April)
I can do some advertising for my own campaign, can't I
The questions are serious though

No Panthers in Afrika Korps, first are used in Kursk, some months after the capitulation of the AK

Correct. NEVER in Africa at all.
The old Airfix boxtop is a fiction, created probably in the 60s probably based on the premis that an all-over yellow (dunklegelb) paint scheme seen on these vehicles must mean they were in the desert sometime.
They weren't.

Except in World of Tanks, where you can have such wonderfully historical matches as Panthers and two or three Japanese Chi-Ri medium tanks (of which only one was actually built) facing off at a north African airfield... But it was never intended to be particularly historical.

Reminds me of the glorious movie title "Königstiger vor El Alamein":
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062714/
Go figure what they were thinking when they came up with this title!
Don't get started on historical accuracy in WoT. Anyway, I would really miss driving around in my E-100
And in case you didn't know: Version 9.0 to be released this year should see the new "historical battle" mode with historically outfitted vehicles only. So far, Kursk, Ardennes and Hungary are planned... We'll see...

So you mean the Panzer IV H with the Stug III 10.5cm never exsisted? next your going to tell me that jagd panzer IV never had a 8.8 cm gun.

If they had, they would've whipped us even worse at Kasserine Pass.

Thanks guys, now I know that at that I can put one in the next "what if" campaign. Just have to get the right mix of A, D and G variants as the one on the box shows.

First Panther was a D out of factory in 1943. Tunisia if anything in late 43 but not sure. The Panther was used on the Russians when it first came out to deal with the KV-1's & T-34's.The Tiger I was already in North Africa kicking ass when the Panther came out. It saw service in Italy 43,Kursk,France D-Day.
