Thanks all.
Here are the results of a weekend's worth of painting. Loader needs a couple of refinements with the skin tone. I am having a hell of a tough time with this one. The facial features aren't the best and I'm just not finding my grove. The Komandar turned out a little better. I think he needs a little more dirt on the white uniform.

Hi. You refer to your epoxie putty as 'Green Stuff'. I've also read references to it by figure sculptors, etc. Is this the same product and it's real name? Is there any advantage of Green Stuff over other epoxy putties like Tamiya's?

Look for Kneadatite Duro Green Stuff tutorials online. There are a lot of them. Check "Cool Mini or Not" for tutorials.
It is quite a bit different than most putties. It is super sticky when mixed, works like old bubble gum, cures stiff but not rigid and doesn't sand or shape like other putties.
It is great for replicating fabrics but not for filling seams.

Alright, we're done here.
Here are some final photos to share. The mud was created with a lot of things and a lot of trial and error to get the churned up muck look I was going for. To better represent the sea of mud in the photo I didn't use a lot of filler foliage except a couple of tree stumps which were fun to paint but are hardly noticeable.
Based on some earlier feedback, I have added a bit more gloss to the tracks but the effect is minor so I doubt I will be taking any additional photos.
Cheers and thanks for looking.
