I'm building Dragon's PzKpfw III Ausf J. I've got Abers L60 barrel on the way. I know the early ausf J had the L42 barrel and the late ausf J had the L60 barrel. Are there any other differences between the early ausf J and the Late ausf J besides the barrel.

Charlie,

If this is the Dragon kit, I have a review on it here on Armorama. I used the Bellona Print history as a reference and all IIIJ's were the same except for ammo storage and gun. The L60 was delayed for eight months and that's why they used the L42 (and Hitler went nuts over the delay as he ordered the change to the L60). I'll check the book tomorrow but I'm quite sure about the above. Oh, if it's the Dragon kit you need to remove the front hull appliqué armour supports.

Cheers,
Jan

Jan, this is Dragon's Pz Kpfw III ausf J kit. I'm not a expert, so where exactly are the applique armor supports?

Charlie,

They are the little projections from the hull roof just above the hull machine gun and drivers plate in the picture below.

I'm on my iPad so more will need to wait until I'm on my network server tomorrow.

Cheers,
Jan

Jan, thanks for the info. Mucho appreciated. Looks like I have to alter what I've done.

Joel,

I checked the book this morning and what I mentioned is correct and the instructions have the wrong pictures in a few places. Example:

You need to remove all those little supports for the applique armour. Typical recent Dragon! :-P
