I know the ushanka hats were adopted by the Soviet army early in WW2, but I'm not clear exactly when. Did they have them in the winter of 1941-2?

Hi Tom,
As far is I know Red Army adopted ushankas in 1940, so they were wearing those in winter of 1941-1942
