I am working on a diorama of two Easy 8s getting resupplied with ammo. Can anyone tell me if 76mm rounds were cased in wooden or metal boxes. I tend to believe wood, but I can ot fing a reference.
thanks

DJ:

Yep, they were wood. Two rounds per box. The rounds were packed in fiberboard cylinders. The boxes were standard Army wooden boxes, with rope handles on the ends between two cleats. In 1/35th scale, they are about 1/4 inch high, 3/8 inch wide and 1 3/16 inch long.

Well, DJ, my main Christmas present will arrive in May when the CGSC class print comes out. This year, it's a D-Day beach scene by James Dietz. I convinced the wife I "had to have" it, then found a member of the class to order it ... of course I'll get it matted and framed. I got last year's class print as a gift from one of my former employees -- it's a wonderful Lewis and Clark piece entitled "Spirit of Discovery" by John Paul Strain -- see this one here: http://www.johnpaulstrain.com/art/spirit-of-discovery.htm

One of these days, when the kids move out, I'll get a model room again and be able to hang some nice military art with some of my old maps and B&W photos.

I have loaded an image of the R1TCA box in my image gallery here. The overall dimensions were 38-1/2 x 9-3/4 x 6-1/2.

Thanks, Kurt!

Now I can really go insane trying to add those markings to some boxes I have on deck. (sometimes too much information ... but I love it)
