This announcement has fulfilled so many people's wishes
Being ignorant about these vehicles myself, may I ask, without being ridiculed , what's with the "male" and "female" names?

Hi Hisham
Male tanks carried the 6pdr guns either side, Female tanks were machine gun tanks only.

The male was cannon armed and the female had just machine guns.

So, the analogy is that the 6pdr cannon is the.... of the male?

As there are two threads running on this one I copied this across.
I bought the Haynes Owners' Workshop Manual on the Mk IV about 6 weeks ago. ISBN 978 0 85733 242 4. It should come in handy for these new builds.
The 6pdrs look good and an open door should offer a decent view of the gun.
Maybe ITA will do an interior???

Probably an easy way to identify large and small gunned vehicles, but I can't say what the thinking was back then

to add to the confusion, there has also been a hermaphrodite version, sporting a gun on one side and machine guns on the other. Perhaps the first "Terminator" tank

Hopefully the two new Mk IV announcements will lead to some new WW1 figures too.
ICM have several sets planned and Tamiya also seem to have a set of British WW1 infantry in the pipe line. MB have their first WW1 figure set due out soon, Tommies and prisoners. With new 1/35 scale WW1 armour becoming available a whole new range of supporting products could appear which would be excellent news indeed.
I doubt it will be long before we see some German armour appearing too.
Cheers

Well, that settles it. I'll just wait for the Takom. Probably cheaper than Tamiya, too!

*sigh* two announcements in one week for new Mk.IV's. Great news (and not entirely unexpected) but now I am really starting to question whether I should keep going with my ongoing Emhar Mk.IV build. I mean, Tacoms pictures alone make me want to throw the Emhar kit where the sun doesn't shine (despite all the scratched updates). What a dilemma....

With the experience fresh in mind from Takoms St:Chamond chanses are huge that Tamiya will draw the shortest straw here. I definitely will go for these, while having a cozy bonfire with my Emhar kits

BUT! Tamiya's will be so simple to build will have some detail, will only be around $100 and, there's every chance it'll be motorized with rubber-band tracks.
How can you turn down a tempting offer like that?

I have been waiting so long for these, my grandfather was one of the original tank crews. He was a member of the Heavy Machine Gun Corp, that were the first crews and went into action at Flers, during the battle of the Somme in September 1916. The first use of tanks. I can't tell you how proud I am of him.
