Would it have been possible to see German troops, later in the war, to be wearing combinations of older uniforms as well as newer ones, ie; Pickelhaube helmets, Stahlhelms, and soft infantry caps, during the same time period? Or were the units fairly uniform in dress?

Not an expert, but I would think a mix would be quite possible if you pick the right time frame.
