Have a quick question regarding when to actually replace the Teflon needle packing seal on a Iwata Revolution CR. I noticed today while sliding back the needle that there was no real resistance when going through the packing seal. I went ahead and completely disassembled the airbrush (including removing the said packing seal) and noticed paint on the threads on the seal but not on the Teflon piece. I again run the needle through the seal and again noticed no resistance while doing so.

Is it time for me to get a new seal? At what point does one replace these sort of items? My brush is a couple of years old.

The first thing I would do is tighten the seal retaining nut in the body (it's all one piece with the revolution). You will probably only have to turn it 1/8 of a turn, but this should have the effect of squashing the seal a little more, and tightening it up on the needle. If you've had it out you'll know to do this you need to insert a small flat blade screw driver into the body from the rear and engage the slot in the packing retainer.

If this doesn't have any effect, then yes you probably do need to replace it.

Thanks Phil. I'll definitely try tightening the seal retaining nut when I re-insert the piece. Being that the brush is now completely disassembled, I'm planning to give all the parts a bath in my ultrasonic cleaner. Once everything is cleaned, I'll try tightening the nut and see what happens.

I thought you meant it was still loose when it was refitted.

It will be loose while disassembled, once you refit it you will find it can be adjusted for friction depending on how tight you screw it into the body.

Tried your suggestion Phil and I adjusted the retaining nut (torqued it little more) and I'm now getting some resistance when I insert the needle. Thanks for the help.
