One of my near future kits to acquire is one of an AAVPT7A. I have seen plenty of these kits built on this site as well as others. I have noticed that all the built kits have the reactive armor tiles on them. Do those tiles come with the Tamiya kit or is that an aftermarket option. If it is an aftermarket option, then which company would be best recomended.
Thanks for any suggestions.

The tiles dont come with the kit. They are aftermarket. I think that was a KIRIN set which is no longer in production.

This is not reactive armor. EAAK (Enhanced Applique Armor Kit) used on AAVP7s is just a set of additional steel armor plates.

The only plastic kit that includes the EAAK out of the box is one of Trumpeter (also sold under Wusan and Mini Hobby brands) AAVP7s. Unfortunately this kit is a poor copy of Tamiya model, heavily modified for motorization. It is only worth purchasing for the armor parts, which can be used on Tamiya model. These parts themselves are copies of a set from Kirin (out of production for quite long time).
Another option to get the EAAK package is the AEF resin set.

I hope that Tamiya will do one to compliment their OIF series.

It is a nice Model!
Their was a site that had all the armor on it but can't remeber where it was I think maybe ML had it a few years back!!
not hard to do but it takes time to apply them little squares!
Goosh can't remember where I saw it at!
So Merry Christmas (:-) (:-)

Redaye a neat subject to model. I think Vodnik has the best option aquire a Trumpeter-Wusan-Mini hobby version and use the add on armor for a tamiya kit. Personaly I don't worry about 100% accurate outlines as long as it looks like what its supose to be. With all the gear Marines hang on the amtracks you hide alot of detail anyway. What really puzzles me is why Tamiya has not upgraded their kit for OIF, they have every other modern US kit they produce. I don't understand what the holdup is. Good luck on your build and Merry Christmas!.

Howdy fella's,
It's good hearing all of your input on this subject, especially Vodnik's since he seems to think the Wusan brand EAAK armour will fit the Tamiya kit. Because that's exactly what I've already done hoping that the Wusan armour would wrap around the Tamiya UGWS kit I bought. I wasn't really sure, but Vodnik's opinion carries some weight on these subjects AFAIC....

Tread:
I have used the WSN armor on a Tammy kit, it fits pretty well though there are a few areas where there are some gaps, it's nothing horrible though. This project hasn't been finished and I hopr to start shortly on another AAV-7 with the AEF EEAK kit.
