Hey guys, do any of you of any good photos of vehicles run over by armor? I hope to build a diorama of a Jeep which was run over by a TIger. Any ideas?

Rob has an image of a car that was run over by either a tank or a humvee. I was pretty flattened. Okay..not flattened...but it went right over the top.

There was an episode of MASH where Major Burns went loose in a Sherman and ran over a jeep that Col Potter was in.....put it this way......Potter pulled out his side arm and put the poor thing out of it's misery...pretty flat.

Actually, that episode is what made me want to try to build a diorama. There was an awesome diorama in Military Modeler years ago of a KVI running over a German Horch which I am trying to dig out of my stash of old magazines which would help. Thanks guys.

A few years ago there was a newsclip about an GI who ran amok with a tank somewhere in the US. Crashing cars and everything else on its way.

try searching for photos from the war and peace show in the Uk I think they normally flatten a few scrap cars every year there with tanks as a demo long shot but might be worth it

There was also a movie produced with James Garner in the starring role. It was called, of all things, "Tank" and it was about an ex GI who owned a tank and used it to defend something or other. And, as you know, american film makers with a tank cannot resist running over all manner of things. Here's a link to the info...
IMDB info
I'm sure you'll find a car or two being mashed in this one. And you'll just love the film too. Top quality stuff

Found this thread by accident, I don't normally peek into the diorama forum.
I witnessed an unfortunate accident in Germany in 1989 when my battalion commander backed his tank over an O/C (observer/controller) HMMWV at the CMTC in Hohenfels.
Fortunately, no one was injured. As I watched the event from the hatch of my tank I just remember screaming over the battalion radio net for all Alpha company tanks to stop moving. I was hoping my commander would relay the message onto the company net and stop the tank from killing the driver. It's a good thing I didn't drop down to the company net myself since the message on the battalion net is what got the battalion commander to stop his tank.
Although that M1A1 flattened the front of the HMMWV, it held up fairly well and was probably repaired and put back into service. I do know that it was on display on main post for a while until the wives of the O/Cs complained. Apparently they did not like the thought that their husbands could be killed in training accidents.
They didn't let us take photos of accidents like that back then, so no shots of the flatten HMMWV in the field.

So true.
Back in 78-79 I was with the 2nd Armored Division (Forward) in Garlstedt. I was officially assigned to Public Affairs as a journalist and unofficially as brigade photographer. It was a gig that got me into lots of places and to see lots of things -- unfortunately, I couldn't keep copies of any of the photos I took -- they were property of the U.S. Army.
One day after a big exercise, I was summoned to one of the Infantry battalion motor pools to take some "accident" pictures. I saw an M113 in unbelievable condition. The tracks were gone and all but two or three of the roadwheels were either missing or badly damaged. The idlers were completely gone, as were the two most rearward road wheels. The next two road wheels were sort of triangular shaped -- the metal worn right off and wheel bearings froze -- and couldn't have been more than 10 inches across at their biggest dimension. One rear corner of the hull was worn completely through -- I climbed insde to get pictures and could see daylight through the hole.
It seems the M113 had broke down right after the exercise ended. The recovery guys wanted to wait for a lowboy to bring it in, but the company commander ordered them to short track it and tow it in behind the wrecker. Apparently, there was quite a scene as the recovery boys pled their case for the lowboy, but the captain insisted they tow it in -- uttering the "I give you a direct order ... " phrase in front of several witnesses. Even the first sergeant suggested the captain reconsider, but was given a firm, "At ease, first sergeant," so the wrecker boys followed the CO's order to the letter to drag the M113 back to the motor pool ASAP. God only knows how much road was tore up by that beast careening down the highway.
I also used to take maneuver damage photos. We once had a civilian Mercedes try to pass an M60 on the right -- a big no-no in Germany. The driver was unhurt, but very ticked off -- I'm not sure whether he was more angry about the damage to his car (pinched between the M60 and a wall), or the fact that the Polezei gave him a ticket for passing on the right (once they pried him out of the wreck).

In the book German armoured units in Arnhem september 1944 are three pics of a german 20 Mm AA gun (the same they use in Saving Private Ryan to shoot the Soldiers off the tiger tank) wich is pushed away first and then driven over by a Stug or numerous Stugs. Funny to see what little gets left when something gets ran over by a tank. Drop me a PM with your E-mail address and I`ll scan the pics for you.

Hey Ambrose,
Have a look here for a few pictures. It's of a Sherman that my regiment restored running over a few cars. There is also video of it if you want to check that out as well.

Darn! That was an idea I was going to try! How were you going to mash the car? I was going to take the car and heat it up, then take a 2x4 to mash it. I got a broken jeep I was going to practice

Lots of interesting pics of squashed vehicles, but how do you take a plastic model and make it look like crushed metal?

Here is a possible idea, taken from a toy matchbox put out about 20 years ago. It was a car crusher that used tin foil pressed over car forms. Maybe you can press out a vehicle in foil, then glue on headlights, tires, fenders, etc... Maybe blackened as if burned out as well as crushed. Hope that doesnt sound too stupid.

Warrior, I think your idea sounds great, I use foil all the time for vehicle sheet metal, but making a whole car out of foil? I would really like to see some body try that.
