I've treated myself to an Eagle IV from Y Modelle. It was delivered yesterday and of cause I took a look at it right away. I am very pleased with this kit. It's very detailed, good clean casting and seem to be an easy build.
Going through the kit I was puzzled by the way it's produced; I've build several resin kits but the way this one is engineered is new. The casting blocks are very different from other kits, not that they in any way are a drag or anything though. I wonder if this is a kit based on a 3D casted master?

Hello Kenneth
could you please some pics to help us seeing what you mean about the way it's engineered?

This is of the lower part of the body. Notice the enormous amount of detail; however also notice the plugs for the casting. They are very clean and very precisely added. Hardly things you normally get from producers.

This becomes even clearer in this picture.

Along the edge of the casting there is a small ”flash” that has to be trimmed. I’ve never seen this before; especially made so precisely.
I’m not sure it’s evident in these pictures, but the entire casting had an odd texture. It’s not as smooth as usual, and that gives me a hint that’s been 3D casted. Hope it doesn’t show through the paint though

Thank you for the pics. I'm not an expert of 3D printers but I think these machines do not create cast plugs.

Enjoy the build !

I think what he is trying to say is if the master pattern was made by 3D printing to include the pour blocks like what Live Resin does.

I get your point. This makes sense.

I wrote Y Modelle about this, and here is their reply:

Hello,

the kit is completely designed with CAD, supported with
CAD-Data of the original manufacturer.
Master is printed with 3-D - printer including the casting
blocks and the casting layers.

Best regards

Hello Kenneth. Thank you for the photos and the info! So the parts cleaning and cutting is easier than usual resin kits? Also what about fitting of parts? Did you face any problems till now? I will sure follow your progress! It is a very interesting and unusual kit so far!

I haven't started jet. I'll make a Danish version of this, so I have started collecting info on the subject. I have some photos already, but I have access to one and will take additional photos and measurements. So fare, however, I know I have to scratch a new back end and the Bofors Lemur weapon station.

Kenneth,

Very interested in hearing how this is going, as I may treat myself to one as well. I too want to make a Danish one. What is the interior like?

Thanks

Graham
