Here's "little" project I have been working on. I finally decided to build Tamiya JSU-152, something that I wanted to do since kit's release but there's always seemed to be something else (usually German flavor).

As I discovered what a fun kit this is, I decided that it would be nice to do another at a same time. Also it have to be a bit different to keep things interesting, so with some choice bits I converted this one to 122s.

After a while it occured to me that why not build remaining version too. Only challenge was to find suitable barrel, tried CMK but it was horrible... By chance discovered Trumpeter corps gun (A-19) kit and it comes with two barrels, one plastic one metallic so there is still option to build that gun too if so desired.

So there Plan is to make 152 plain green, 122s with worn winter camo and finally 122 faded green with remains of partial winter camo and more recently painted Berlin stripes. I'm not using any documented vehicles as reference, these are more of my own idea with some artistic licence to boot.

152 is basically ready for primer, but I'll probably wait until I get all three in same stage so I can do them all at once. This build has Friul tracks and RB Model barrel, also some (but not many) bits from ET model and Voyager sets and some scratch building. Damage includes missing fender sections and one wheel and suspension arm missing (hit from anti tank projectile or maybe mine that took it's time to decide to explode or not...)and missing spare fuel tanks and brackets. Reflector for headlight is made from Bare Metal Foil, excellent stuff.

I'm building other two on bit mixed order, but I'm guessing that 122s would be next to reach this stage.

It is. Kind of reminds of Tamiya's Char B1 bis kit, I have build two of them and still have two more in stash.

JSU-122
I noticed that barrel that I'm using is bit wrong shape, it lacks that distinctive bottle shape just after gun shield. No acces to lathe I had to improvise and result isn't perfect but better, and I would imagine it looks just fine after painting:

Also I'm using leftover etch and Tamiya original link&lenght tracks with this build:

So to my previous post, that detail inside red circle. Can it be fuel filler cap?

Shiny It's shame that there isn't acceptable aftermarket barrel for JSU-122.

I am doing the same thing you are, I have built a JSU-152 and a JSU-122S, I have not started on the JSU-122 yet

The replacement barrel I am going to use is by Magic Models, I already have one.

Thanks for the tip. Is that barrel straight fit for Tamiya kit, no size issues as with CMK barrel?

I dry fitted it and had no issues. I think the CMK was meant for the dragon kit, you could use their part if you have a spare kicking around.

Hi Tomi;

The Round circle that you mention is for an additional periscope, that has been plated over.----I think, if I remember it correctly. Stunning Builds by the way, nice work.

I think that i give MagicModels barrel a go, it sure looks good. That CMK would look pretty anemic when compared with other two tanks and their guns, for a single build that could work too I guess.

While waiting new barrel to arrive, some plans of things to come. As 122 is final chapter of this buid, I think that there's no better place to end this trilogy than on streets of Berlin. So I'm planning this small vignette with cobblestone street and some ruins&rubble, also some other accesories included (2 figures, oil drum, chains etc etc).

Two pictures with building included. Building is from Dioramas Plus, Government Ruins, which is quite large piece but here I'm only using small portion. Cobblestone street is MiniArt reinforced with some plywood.

So did you think that I have forgotten these This is originally JSU-152, I changed barrel for it so now it's 122 and it's ready for primer:

Project has changed a bit and probably there will be two of these made, so no triple but double.

Great build.

The ports with the square's are all armoured covers for fuel or oil.
In the ISU in the inside on both sides above the tracks there are two full hight fuel tanks. As can be seen here's:
