Hoping someone out there could help. I am currently scratch-building a 1/72 scale aavp7 that would later go into an OIF dio. I have seen many pics of the aav with the EAAK and was hoping to add it on to the finished model. Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in my search for dimensions of the armor. Also, does anyone know about or have pics of the turret's interior (preferably the rear)? One last question (I promise ), what aav units are serving in Iraq currently? Any comments are appreciated.

Hi
Welcome to the Club ! Hoping it's no old hat for you, you can have a look at this site, for some AAV interior pics :
http://afvinteriors.hobbyvista.com/lvtp7/lvtp7a.html
I also have a EAAK fitted AAV project (in 1:35 scale) and I have planned to use the EAAK parts of the Trumpeter/MiniHobby kit as templates. Maybe you could do the same (with a calculator ) ?
Concerning OIF I am not sure that AAVs are still deployed in Iraq... You can go to :
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iraq_orbat.htm
for more informations

Frenchy-
The links were extremely helpful. The afv interiors link I had been using from the beginning of the project but the global security site was a mystery to me. The only unfortunate part is that the links to the unit's website is down meaning it will be a while until the markings are on. Thanks a lot anyways!

There was a MEU (SOC) from the 1st MarDiv in country recently, but I believe they've left once again, there are AAV's with the MEU, although how many I'm not 100% certain of.
