It's interesting, but not a single KV-5 was ever built. How about filling the gaps in the line up of important real tanks that actually saw the light of day?

I think it's great we're seeing some of these prototypes being released! Just as long as we see some US armor too.
Maybe they'll turn WOT tankers into model builders, huh?

I fully agree with Chuck4. Nothing wrong with prototypes, but there are a number of important vehicles that were produced in significant quantities that are sadly missing from the line up - like the Somua S-35 and TKS tankette...

I'm not going to complain! But while we're on the topic how 'bout a KV3, KV4, SU100Y or SMK/T-100.

Or... the SU-101 Uralmash.
I discovered this one back when I was looking up SU-100 data.

I have said it before and I will doubtlessly say it again; thank the modelling Gods for World of Tanks! Without that game we would never have gotten all of these exotic prototypes.
I would also say I'm glad Trumpeter is in the act. I find it interesting that they seem to have taken Dragon's crown for buildable models with decent quality coming out at a rapid rate. Perhaps that will help Dragon get their act together. If this KV-5 is at the quality of their recent T-72 and T-90 kits this'll be a great kit.

I wish they wouldn't all pile on whenever someone release another never-built, purely-hypothetical, would-be prototype tank.
Did we need 3 object 279 kits?
It's like they don't have their own market research and just all follow the herd like a bunch of lemmings. It is another opportunity lost for a manufacturer to devote resources to a more important, actually existent, have seen real service, tank.
Kv-1, kv-2, or even kv-85 I can understand as market decisions. But I can not imagine they would possibly sell more Kv-5 kits than chieftain kits, or even conqueror kits, or T-10M kits, or even T-44 kits.

It's not like Trumpeter saw Takom's announcement and they came up with a ready built test model Obviously they both have been working on their kits for a long time.. but when Takom announced their kit, Trumpeter decided to announce theirs so that Trumpeter lovers would wait for their kit and not buy Takom's... So, nobody is following anybody
Just enjoy the fact that the hobby is growing.. and you never know what you might see being announced next

I wouldn't discount these types of kits selling quite well. I have heard anecdotally that these types of kits are selling very well indeed, apparently prompted by people who've never really been model builders but loved playing the tank on-line. While I really would love a good Chieftain (and it's now time for one to come out as I finally broke and bought the AA resin conversion kit and the old Tamiya kit) we're getting Leopard 1's and new M60's so we are getting a fair number of tanks to fill in new tool gaps. Non tank AFV's are a different story but I think there is a perception (maybe correct, maybe no) that tanks outsell non-tank as a matter of course.

look, a few years ago an E-100 was the most exotic kit you could get out there. If i try to count all the yummy unusual tanks released in the past 2 years, i would get T28, Tortoise, Lowe, Object 279, Object 704, M103, M6, Is4, IS7, now KV5 and a lot more. The classic 'conventional' tanks market is already covered and companies like Trumpeter and Takom are growing balls to risk a bit with making kits like these. What greater sign of probability of getting kits like T10 or T44 would you want? Those companies are not deaf, nor blind - everyone on the internet wants a T10. I am absolutely sure there is a T10 in the making, even though noone noticed it, if there can be 2 companies working on a little known KV5 prototype, there just have to be someone making a high demaded T10 kit already. Just be patient and they will come i feel it

What's it matter anyway if a particular piece of armor never saw production? They are just as important to armor history as the next one.
Besides, it's refreshing to see something different than all the usual kits being built to death.

I Think at this point in time that if your willing to wait for it, it will come out as a plastic kit...and some of those most wanted kits will make an appearance sooner then you think.

we have seen sprues from Trumpeter that are of the T-10, so that one is almost certainly coming sooner rather than later.
