Was the M1A2 used in Operation Iraqi Freedom? I got it for a x-mas gift, and I really want to do a dio of a buddy of mine who is over there now.
Thanks!

I think it does. I saw Dragon's M1A2 which was used on OIF. Not sure if it's the M1A2 or M1A1 cause I only had a glance on it.

You'd really have to dig deep,......but I dont think any A2's went to Iraq. They were mostly fielded with A1's

But who would know the differance? Would the two be very UNalike?
Or would they be similar?

CHIP,
Disreguard my last post I was wrong, there were A2's in Iraq. After checking my referance I did find proof that they were in country near the end of action, before Hostilaties ended and they do remain there.
As to your ? of the differance. Yes they are different. The differances are mainly in the combat equipment installations. IE: sites, Transponder for IFF, main gun, fittings,APU, Stowage..
The review I did a cpl weeks ago on the new concord book has them in it. The review is in Armorama library reviews. Tod
SOILDER on with your OIF Abrams A2. Its all good.!

The 4th ID used M1A2SEPs in Iraq and they are there now. They did not see any tank on tank battles or many fixed fights since the Iraqi army was pretty much down to guerilla warfare by the time the 4th arrived in theater.
There are several visual differences between the M1A2 and M1A2SEP. Relocation of the bustle mounted APU to inside the left rear hull is one.

Archer Fine Transfers set me a complete set of OIF Abrams markings in both 1/35 and 1/72 scale. If you visit their site, at http://www.archertransfers.com/, you can search for the various sets of markings.

I thought I would drop a quick note and back up what SABOT is saying. I saw an A2 here in Baghdad around June or early July. I almost pulled out in front of it which would have been a bad deal for me. I was driving a HMMWV at the time!

I looked on the site, and I can't find those OIF markings. What would they be under?

Go to Browse and Shop and click on POST KOREA ARMOR. Apparently OIF occurred after the Korean War.

CHIP.
The only marking options you have is 1)3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment, 2) 4th Armor
Division ,3) 3rd Marine Exped . Force. And another thing no A2's saw combat, because they arrived after May 1st

Hmvees and Abrams don't mix. When I was in Gremany , my M60A3 Rolled across the hood of a 280sl Benz. when it pulled out in front of us. Not a pretty sight. No one was hurt but the car .
