A while back, I found an article (not sure if on or off Armorama) about how to print your own name plates to put on dioramas at home... you use a print out with transparency film somehow.

Thing is, can't seem to find that article for the life of me. Does this sound familiar? If so, any links you can help me find?

Thanks!

Don't have a link to the actual article but i've used this stuff:
http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Crafts-%26-Scrapbooking/Sticker-Project-Paper/Clear-Sticker-Project-Paper_04383.htm

(Not for a diorama but for decals to glass bottles)
It worked pretty darn well. this was a few years ago and its still sticking
For wood, plastic etc. you probably need to prepare the surface first and then I guess you could seal it with future or similar to preserve it even better

Johann's Idea is a good one, clear sticky labels, like it!

I have used clear transparencies, knock up your wording, & print on Laser compatible stock.

For Inkjet printers, the transparent stock has a coating for the ink to stick to, so is 'handed' or 'sided??'

The stuff I had was fragile, so I 'flipped' the text (in CorelDraw or similar) & printed it, then putting the printed sheet coated side down, so that the text was 'right way round' for reading.

I couldn't find the original article/post, but I did cobble enough of the details together to figure out what the process was:

1. Design your text for the "plate"
2. Reverse is
3. Print it out on a laser printer and on transparency material
4. Spray paint the backside (with the printing) in gold
5. Let it try, cut it out, and adhere it to the base
