So I'm about to start painting on my first model, a Tamiya M48A3. I would just like to know if I am prepared and am using proper techniques. Also, I will be using rattle cans and acrylics.
1. I'm starting with Tamiya Gray Primer on the model.
2. Then I will apply the base coat (Tamiya Lacquer Olive Drab), using several mist coats.
3. Finally I will put on road wheels with the rubber rims (Painted with Tamiya's Nato Black). Along with painting accessories, mantlet, etc. Also, the tracks will only have their sides painted with Tamiya Chrome Silver (Lightly).
Am I missing anything? I will not be weathering, but I will put on the decals afterward, so how would I prepare the model for those? Thanks in advance!

Sounds right, are you aware that you will need a clear gloss coat for the decals, then finish it with a dull clearcoat.
I would paint the metal on the tracks a darker metallic gray or rust, but that's just my thought.
Also for the roadwheels, many of use a gray-black mix on the rubber,as deep black is rarely seen on rubber.

If it's your first time ever, you may want to do practice runs on a dispensable model or a piece of plastic -- just so that you get the hang of it before you get to the real thing. Good luck!

Apply a gloss varnish (like Pledge Future) to the model before decaling.
