As a retired 19E40/19K40 tanker, I have a huge love for the M60 series of Main Battle Tanks. I served on the M0A1 RISE Passive and the M60A3 TTS during the early/mid 80s. Yes, the M1 tank is far superior in most ways, but the M60A3 was still an outstanding tank that could go toe to toe with the Russian/Soviet T-55, T-62, T-64 and the earlier versions of the T-72 tanks.

Anyway, the Tamiya's 1988/89 release of the M60A3 kit was a very nice kit for somebody like me with only basic modeling skills... Their earlier M60A1 and M60A2 kits from the early 70s were OK, but needed lots of work, mainly with the nylon ballistic shields for the main gun and the TC's M85 .50 cal., MG Also, both these kits and the later M60A3 kit suffered from the suspension riding too high.

There was another M60 kit that was out in the mid 70s/early 80s, but I can't remember the company's name right now or have I ever seen a tank built from it.

With all this said, I was wondering if there are any "NEW" 1/35th scale M60 kits in the works? I would love to see an early version of the M60 MBT from the early/mid 60s and a more correct version of the M60A2 WITH the most important detail of a correct looking nylon ballistic shields and bustle rack!!

Also, a new M48A5 kit with a option for either a M2 .50 caliber MG or the M60D MG for the Tank Commander's hatch and the left/ride side smoke grenade launchers would be pretty cool as well.

Currently, I'm building the Tamiya's M60A3 kit (Again), but with only one minor change... I'm building the version of the M60A3 we transitioned to while stationed with "1st Tank" (1/72nd Armor) in Korea back in 1984. The only change from a M60A3 either in Germany or Stateside was the addition of a M60D machinegun on the outside of the loader's hatch... In the same manner as on the M48A5. Adding an extra machinegun made a lot of sense since the main threat from North Korea was infantry. Also, since the search light was no longer needed, we mounted a spare road wheel in that area... Not my ideal, but all four tanks in our platoon had our spare road wheel stored there.

Since I'm going on with M60A3 tanks in Korea, I would like to share a little story here. To help I.D. our platoon tanks, we had a small flag attached to the main antenna... They were locally made and were supposed to have the tanks bumper number AND "Beast Masters" in gold/green. Well, when we picked them up, they read "Breast Masters." We learned pretty quick that in our local G.I. town, TDC, there was a no refund policy in effect!! I was only an SGT/E-5 Tank Commander at the time and thought that "Breast Masters" was pretty cool!! I was happy that the C.O. had a sense of humor and let us go with it.

Thanks for looking!!

Unfortunately nothing new, but Esci/it did a decent one . Lots of expensive aftermarket options, even for an A2.

The M60 is my baby too. Grew up with her. Of course I never got to play with fancy ones, I just got to play with A1's of the Marines.

Post some of your work here. Love to see more M60s!

AFV Club is going to do an all new M60 and had some test shots at the AMPS nationals back in April.

Takes to long for AFV to release a brand new series of M60s even we have seen the test shot few months ago. But worth waiting!

I'm glad they went with the M60A1 and am really hoping they bring their normal level of quality to it. Not struggling with this choice will be nice. . .

Esci must be the other manufacture your thinking about...they are actually pretty nice kits, but I'd wait for the AFV Club one
