In all of the images that I can find of the Cat D9R in US military service the "HSC" marking (when present) above the cab appears to be associated with transport or movement operations. Can anyone tell me what "HSC" represents? I'm building Meng's D9R in US service and presenting it loaded on a HET M1070 with M1000.

My guess would be "Headquarters and Support Company" just like in this picture :
"Sgt. Samuel R. Lott, a 23-year-old motor transportation operator from Mojave Valley, Ariz., with Headquarters and Support Company, Regimental Combat Team 1, stands in front of a heavy equipment tram at the motor transportation lot, Oct. 8, at Camp Ramadi Iraq." :

Thanks for the input HP. Still something of a mystery to me. Meng have featured this on their kit (box art and as a decal option) but I can't find a definite explanation anywhere.

Perhaps the mystery revolves around the fact that Meng notes that scheme as a USMC vehicle. The HSC is seen on Army vehicles only. HQ always gets the good stuff!

Headquarter Support Company.
I was attached to 10th MTN Div HHBn HSC while in the sandbox. I got a few friends on my facebook that are still part of US Army that I can ask.

The HSC on the decal sheet is for Headquarters and Support Company.
Headquarters and Support Company is both a USMC and US Army organization.
In the above post with the pic and description, that is a US Marine as part of a USMC unit.

Thanks Pat. Good point re: Meng's use, possibly in error, of the decal.

Thanks Tom. Primary sources would be great to shed some light on this for me.

Thanks Gino. The only image that I am working from is the one I have, hopefully, inserted below. This is the only image I can find the shows the HSC stencil in use.

Here's the original caption for the picture above :
"U.S. Army soldiers from Alpha Company, 3rd Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division prepare to unload two armored Caterpillar D9 bulldozers from their carriers at Al Butoma, Iraq, on Jan. 11, 2006"

Right, those are US Army D9Rs assigned to an HSC as part of an Engineer Battalion or Brigade, etc. As I said, HSC is used by both the USMC and US Army. The HSC designation has nothing to do with the fact that they are being moved on a HETS or any other movement designation. Meng did not mess up the decals.
