Hi guys ,

@ Nick ,

you sir ! Are a very smart man. It is my intention indeed to let the cloud hiding the aircraft supports , if possible from both airplanes. Therefore i made a test with foam that is normally used for isolation purposes. The name is polyurethane foam if i'm right ? Just spray the foam in a random shape and when it's hardened ( after two days of drying time) it will look something like this

After painting in white acryl and while the paint is still wet ,adding of cotton wool it looks like this..

Now , this is a solid base to hold my airplane supports.A real Kurt twist
Thanks Nick for looking in and your kind words.

@ Jerry , i knew you would love to see this forced perspective. I'm glad you like it and also thanks for the words of encouragement really appreciated.

More about the groundwork on the next update , thanks for having a look.

Really really intriguing idea here. I love this concept. Would you consider pulling some tiny bits of cotton out away from the "cloud" to give a more wispy, feathery appearance?

Hi Kurt,

Reaction: Wow!!

Comments: the scene is really convincing! Nice job on both the ground plain and air plane! Haha!

Thoughts: make it bigger!

This is a pretty cool build Kurt - really interesting to see how you addressed the immediate foreground and distant but important background. I like it! The sepia pics are great, but curios to see black and white, and color too...
Cheers

Hi. This isn't really my subject of interest but you've got my attention. The forced perspective is very well done. I've wanted to use this technique myself for a dio idea I've been toying with so I'm hoping to pick up as many hints and tips as possible. Don't worry about the lack of comments, that seems to be the way of things at the minute and I'm as guilty of this as anyone else.

Ok now, this is what I am talking about!!! This is cool! Well done. It really works brilliantly and I love this concept. I agree with Nick, the groundwork piece could be bigger. That would help you get some even better pics I think?
This is awesome. And yes, pretty silent on here lately.

This is awesome.

I agree with you and Nick that a bigger groundwork would give the scene a better visual effect though the groundwork is not really the eyecatcher . It is just a part of the decor with two airplanes ( a triplane and a biplane ) as actors in the front of the stage so to speak... Thanks for your positive comments brother.

* mike , nice to hear from you and thanks buddy for dropping in and also for the words of encouragement .

* Paul , thanks for the visit and welcome in my topic .

I was talking about a second airplane , well lets start building the Sopwith Camel. A biplane with rigging and stuff like that, yeehaaa....looking forward to that.

Cheers ,

Alright cool.if you don't want the hassle of making a bigger groundwork I have a suggestion. Before you take pics next time surround your groundwork with sheets of medium green hobby paper so everything will blend in with the background better? Or??

Hi everyone ,

this diorama is finished , i was wondering if i could create something like this....euhm well i did the best i could to make this convincing . Both airplanes are not very well done to be honest i'm a little bit disapointed of myself. Okay, stop whining and let's go on with the show . I made pictures of the endresult and hopefully you can approve it Jerry ?

I've made a slide show too on You Tube but the pictures are in Sepia
So here's the link https://youtu.be/UKeBZmg-zfI

Below a few pictures from the slide show but this time in color . Please have a look

Thanks for having a look and comments are always welcome.

Cheers

YES!!!!! Excellent. I think the new edging you included takes away the distraction of the old groundworks edges. Very nice!! Cool concept and I didn't notice any bad job on the aircraft,no worries!

Hi Kurt

The effect on the pictures is awesome! I am very impressed by the foam. It looks so real, from far.

So, how is the live viewer going to see this? Do you have a concept for this already?

Greets

Very cool dio!
Two little things though:

1.Camel propeller isn't spinning, and ...
2.Remember that rotary engines should spin too!

Anyway you got a nice result.

Hi guys ,

@ David , thanks for the kind words . There is so much more you can do with airplanes and dioramas and that's exactly what i want to show .

@ Jerry , pfwoeeeh......that's a big relief . To be honest i was expecting a little fire barrage about this issue from you . Thanks for the follow up and your kind words of encouragement . Glad you like it !

@ Claude , thank you for the possitive comment , comming from you means a lot to me and it's nice to see you back on this forum. The cloud is a combination of foam (normally used for insulation purposes) and cottonwool. It's very light but strong enough to support both airplanes .

I have to admit that the '' magic view'' about the forced perspective can only be achieved when you are taking pictures ,because you create some kind of tunnel view when you look trough the camera. So that's a bit of a handicap in compare with other dioramas when you see it in reality , the magic is gone so to speak. The in flight diorama was just a test to practise a few methods that i've found on the web and i'm not planning to show it for the live viewers ( i think ) .

@ Lentorpe , about the first issue the Camel is in troubles if you look again you can see that the proppeller is damaged and therefore the airplane is in glider mode with the Fokker closing in behind him ready for the kill. You right about the second issue and next time i'll see to it . Thanks for your possitive comment.

Hi Kurt,

As always, you've made another innovative winner of a build! I've got to say, I think I like the last picture the most - I'll bet if you cropped it, it could pass for a real photo - nice job!

Thanks , i'm dreaming of a real Sopwith Camel attached on the ceiling with a huge groundwork in forced perspective...... that would be very impressive don't you think ?
