So i am trying to determine what color to paint treebark. I am guessing a grayish hue, as that is, to me, what color most bark is.
My Dio is on the Eastern front, but not with actual trees, but logs for a bunker/gunpit.
What wouls most do for a color?

Start with a brown trunk, and then drybrush a couple of shades of gray over that.

I paint my tree trunks a base of Floquil or PollyScale Grimy black. Then add a straight black wash. I finish off with drybrushing lighter grays. I might warm this up with a very, very light drybrushing of a warmer brown. I use Bayardi castings when possible and his tree trunks always have exposed wood. For the wood, I use a base of MM Wood or a creamy off white then give a wash of gray or van dyke brown with off white dry brushing.

Excellent suggestions posted above, altho I think that I started with a straight black 'primer' and then worked in (up) some browns, gray and tan washes and drybrushings and then a final dark brown wash. Final touch was another round(s) of drybrushings. Basically, I 'shot from the hip', but was (and have been) very pleased with the results.
I also like/love the Bayardi castings.
