Are there any 105mm barrels available for the M51 Super Sherman?

I don't think so. THere's a build of one over on modelarmour and the guy had to use brass tubing.

Guilty as charged

I was unable to find an AM barrel anywhere so just used a piece of brass tube. Though, with hindsight, a lot easier to just use the kit barrel

The Tamiya kit barrel came out okay for me, straight and no seam after a little work.

Mainly, I need the muzzle break. I bought the Academy kit, by mistake. I've heard that the muzzle break is too long.

Excellent modeling job on the Chilean vehicle. The only problem is that the barrel should be tapered.
The Tamiya kit is a good option for the muzzle brake, as is the Accurate Armour update set. I've built two Tamiya kits and the barrel is very easy to work with. The AA muzzle brake is a little fiddly, but the end result is good.

Tom
The main part of the barrel is not tapered which is why I used brass tube. It does taper where it fits into the mantlet and I used teh Tamiya kit part at that point.

"muzzle brake" not "muzzle break"
Muzzle isn't broken, its movement is slowed.
Sorry, pet peave.

Would this set work on the Academy version?

According to all of the scale drawings that I've seen, the barrel is tapered over its length. It's also visible in photos. The more noticeable taper is at the mantlet. That doesn't detract from all of the excellent modeling.
Regarding the Accurate Armour update set, parts of it can, indeed, be used for an M50, using photos. For instance, the long side boxes, engine deck and more will work. Travel lock will not. Location of the spare tracks on an M50, etc.
Just realized that it's the M50 turret set, from Formations(?), being inquired about. The bustle extension is the most obvious issue with the Dragon turret. The Formations and DEF versions are better. There are few minor corrections to the width, but otherwise, they have very good detail and so on. I've built all three and the MP Models version as well, and I prefer Formations, DEF and MP, even with a few adjustments.
