What was the purpose of the small basket on some Panzer III hatches?
Thanks!

Darn Andy, you beat me to it!

Seriously though, I have no idea what it's for. I do know it was mounted on other vehicles, too. The VK4501 I did had one, and I've seen it on others.

Hi guys,

There was a post on Network54 telling me that this was a basket where infantry could drop messages in.
The '' foreunner'' of the infantry telephone on modern tanks.

is it just me or does it look like one of the MG mags minus the gun? Or am I just being mad?

It's a metal basket for signal fires.

It's a basket, no mag.

I read here it was for carrying "pyrotechnic devices".

I would think it's for binoculars and or a signal flare gun etc.
