Cheers Nick, I agree the 3rd photo is a lot more manageable
Some progress on the figures. These are Legends items, some with Hornet bearded heads (HH36, maybe?). All I've done is painted most of the base colours using vallejo acrylics. I tried to give the DCUs a faded look, which might need more attention during the weathering process.
Shadows/highlights and details will be painted later using oils so hopefully they'll look better soon.
Cheers

Cheers guys, it's been a while since I updated the thread but I've been busy with a few things, like this:
I know it's a plane on armorama, please don't hate me! (RIAT 2014 - click on the photo to go to the album if you want to see more).
I have also been slowly working on the figures - just three have been done, or are close to done. Its taken a while to build up the shadows and skin tones using oils, but I pretty pleased with how they turned out.
Thanks for looking!

Nice work on the figures; they look great!
Thanks for sharing the air-show pics! The Apache encircled in smoke really does it for me! ... and the Spitfire! ... and the Lancaster! ...

Hi guys. It's been a very long time since I've updated this thread, but I have still been working on the project in the meantime. The base is now nearing completion. The height was built up with styrofoam, and the ground was shaped with plaster before having Mig & Tamiya texture paint applied to simulated sand/grit. Then I used woodland scenics ballast for the small rocks. The base colour is Vallejo Desert Tan, with various AK & Mig filters to give it soem variety. Finally, I added grass from Mini-natur and flock which was sprayed in various shades of green.
The cliff is a plaster casting using a mould from Woodland scenics. I cut up the casting and reshaped it to fit the available space. The joins were filled with filler and scribed to match the surrounding rocks. Finally I've been building up the water in thin layers for the stream and larger river at the base of the rocks. Enough talking!
It's a bit to big for my usual photo area & background so the pictures were taken on my bed rather hastily. I'll post some better ones with the vehicles in position when I can. Let me know what you think!
Cheers

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments! I'm pretty happy with the ground work so far, but I'm thinking of drybrushing the bare rock faces, so they stand out more from the rest of the sand/gravel.
Cheers

Looking good. The shape of the base works particularly well.
