Well, I've spent some time looking around and I'm not really finding anything dedicated to trenchwarfare in WWII. The primary reason for that I think is that it was rarely initiated. WWII was much more fluid and dynamic due to the vehicles/tatics employed. Some areas that I know that did have some form of trench warfare were found on the Russian front where both sides would establish fortifications during the winter and spring months when their mobility was affected. There were also some trenches used by Allies during Operation Market Garden. I have seen a photo taken from the air of a German trench line in Belgium I think.
Sorry for all the dialogue and not much payoff What trenches there were, I doubt were very involved. Move of a shallow ditch providing some short-term protection. I doubt there was many as well developed as in WWI.
Sorry I couldn't help more. What does your project involve?

maybe try looking for images of krusk as the soviets had large defences in depth and I'm sure that this included a number of trench systems and anti tank ditches also look for pictures of the seelow hight battles you may find some in there but as to them looking like WW1 systems I dont think so may be the odd streach with a dug out bunker at the end some polish model company (mirage?) do pill boxes ect for a couple of £ so might be worth having a look out

Well, I know the Japanese did some trench warfare on Saipan. They (the Japanese) did it in a zig-zag pattern. I hope this helps. Thanks for your time.

Actually, one of the photos I mentioned earlier(a photo taken from the air of a German trench line in Belgium) was a zig-zagging German trench. I have spent some more time looking around and have come across a couple more photos of German trenches. Kursk was a good site for Russian trenches. They used them to contect anti-tank gun emplacements.
Also, as stated earlier, I don't get the impression that soldiers spent a lot of time in these so they weren't well developed, as in having reinforcing timbers and such. Mostly they appear to be dug to just over the height of the head and maybe wide enough for two people side by side.

I am reading Otto Carius's Book "Tigers in the Mud" atm, where there is mention of the germans using the zig-zag pattern for trenches.

If you're still out there check this link out. There's picture about half way down that shows some Germans digging a trench.
