I started this a few days ago and recently finished painting the interior. I'll be using the Live Resin US Army MICH helmets LRE 35023, some of Trumpeters M4 RIS and M4A1 sets, and Live Resin Scope Set 2 LRE 35008. Along with some other bits from a Tamiya Modern Military set and some stuff from the DML M1A1 AIM kit.

Also, can anyone tell me if it'd be correct to use those grenade launchers on this?

Nice job so far. Lots of lovely little details... I did that Acadamy kit when it came out first and was really impressed with it.

I don't think those smoke grenade launchers are correct for a Humvee. I can't recall ever seeing them on any and I've looked at lots of pics of Humvees

While there are smoke grenade launchers for Humvees, those two in your photos belong on Army M1 tanks (the Marine Corps use a different set).

Sean: The kit is pretty nice. I had some trouble getting the body to sit right on the frame but after a bit of shaving, whittling, and tweaking, I got it right.

Lee: I know the launchers are off of an Abrams because I took them off the DML M1A1 AIM. But I will be building this as an Army HMMWV. But either way, the launchers aren't correct?

No, I've never seen those launchers on anything but Army M1 tanks. I'd guess the Humvee and Stryker launchers are considerably lighter-weight.

Looking good Michael,
It's a great kit and well priced.I've done 3.
Nice job on the computer monitor. They should have added a decal for it.Can't have everything I guess.
The launchers are definitely not right.

Anything is possible with US Army

Smoke grenade and tool box from M1 on the M93 FOX

I haven't seen any Smoke grenade launchers installed on the M1151 with O-GPK turret, most the time the launchers were on the m1114 with GPK turret, but you can see them on the m1151(GPK) training vehicle occasionally.

The smoke launchers are correct on an M93 FOX Chemical Recon Vehicle. The boxes are not tool boxes, but hold extra smoke grenades to reload the launchers with. The smoke launchers are used on other armored vehicles as well, not just the Abrams.

As the others have said though, that type is not used on HMMWVs.

Ok. Thanks guys. I won't be using the grenade launchers. Although it would make the thing look pretty bad... butt. I finished the interior. I just have to wait for a Live Resin Scope set 2 to come in to finish off some of the weapons and get some cans of paint and I'll be able to advance a bit more.

The only grenade launchers used on the HMMWV platform is the M7 Discharger, Grenade, Smoke Countermeasure Light Vehicle Obscuration Smoke System (LVOSS).

I have some detailed photos of the system mounted on an M1151 here:
http://www.hmmwvinscale.com/dischargergrenade.htm

The system can be used with the GPK turret or the O-GPK turret...does not matter.

If anyone looking at this thread is currently stationed in the Middle East on base with any M1151's or any other armament carrier HMMWV's, I could use some pictures of the interior cabin. I'm trying to figure out where to place some M4s, MRE's, .50 cal ammo boxes, M4 mags and some other stuff around the cabin but I have no idea where I could place them. Frankly I've gotten down to the bottom of Google Image searches of M1151s.

Also, I did see a picture of a 1151 with an IFF panel on the hood right above that vent. Is that a specialized panel for a HMMWV or would I be able to hijack one from the DML AIM kit?

And I am thinking about putting a M249 into the O-GPK alongside the M2. What modifications might i need to make to the 249 and the front shield of the O-GPK other than making a cut-out for the gun? What mount would I need? Would I be able to get a mount out of a piece of T-shaped scrap sprue or would I need to buy a separate mount? The M249 is out of the Tamiya Modern US Accessories Set #141. It has the box magazine attached.

And, (so many "ands" and edits today ) in order to mount up a M4 in the turret how should the brackets look and be mounted to the turret side wall?

This walk-around shows a pretty cluttered M1151 interior.

If you are talking about the flat IFF panel on the turret faces of the M1,
you cannot use those.

You cannot beat the previously mentioned post from Steve Tyliszczak. Soldiers did not cut the shield to mount an extra weapon. They always mounted the weapon to the left or right side of the turret.

The M249 is out of the Tamiya Modern US Accessories Set #141. It has the box magazine attached.

The M249 in the Tamiya set is out dated and the stock design went out of use in the early 90's. The most accurate M249 on the market is from Live Resin.

The brackets are similar rifle storage brackets that are used in US vehicles.

Its mounted horizontally instead of vertically as most often seen. Barrel clamp:

Sauer: I'm not talking about the flat IFF panels I'm talking about the louvered panels. And thank you for the pictures and links.

What you typically see on the hood of humvees are the louvered inserts from the framed IFF panels. You should be able to use them from the Dragon kit if they are in the Dragon kit.

Yes, the louvered panels are from the Dragon AIM kit. They give 2 extras.
I've seen that walkaround a few times and its a bit too cluttered for what I'm looking for. But I'm still looking for some interior pictures

Should I cut out a square in the hood to fit the IFF panel, shave down the base, or just attach it as is to the hood?

I have a good idea of where I want to put the M4s in the cabin and O-GPK turret and I have an idea of how to make an Eagle Mount out of scrap sprue. I'm going to ditch the IFF panel idea as I already attached the hood to the body and the body to the frame and painted it.
