Hi!
I have the old Heller AMX13/75 (thanks JW!) and I know it's not the best kit around-but it's the only game in town.
So, what needs/can/should be fixed and detailed to make it reasonably acceptable as a 67' IDF vehicle.
Another thing, people always say "soft on details" or "can use adding details". now what would be those details?
I sometimes find myself looking a kit (not the tamiya T-55) and looking for details to add,but don't see much unless it's really big and missing. on the other hand I read articles that say "1,xxx,xxx parts were added to the commander copula alone" SO WHY CANT I FIND ALL THOSE DETAILS TO ADD?.
do the majority of kits I buy are so good, don't think so.
will only modelers with acute AMS find those details?
Thanks for you answers
Eran

Eran,
I've got the same kit. All the intake screens are fairly ugly and I had started drilling out each hole but stopped after snapping a couple of fine drill bits which in the end probably saved me from total insanity. There is a homemade PE set made by a guy in Spain but he only takes cash. I can scan the instruction sheet if you would like. It's got hull and turret details.
As far as the AMS is concerned, I think the AMX is a decent kit, even though the hull construction is a pain, and my biggest complaint is the hollow periscopes but that's my personal b*tch. As far as I know the ifrance site is the best bet for pics but it's not IDF.
I got the Chaffee turret conversion from JW so I've sunk enough extra into this kit. I'm not replacing the kit tracks. Looks like I have to make the tracks muddy.
I've got AMS but my wallet keeps it in check and mainly serves as a good excuse for not finishing a kit.

Eran,
I dropped a figure into the commander's hatch with a 1967 style uniform and was happy with the results. As mentioned, the mulitpart hull can be a pain. The only other real complaint I had was that the tracks were really soft vinyl and tended to fold over a bit on the drive wheel. I also covered the mantlet tarp with tissue and white glue. It's a rare enough kit and tank that relatively few experts are going to get their shorts in a knot about it not being spot on.
I bought a second to add the turret to a Sherman to make an Egyptian M4 as captured by the Israelis. Cheaper than the Verlinden conversion and I got a bunch of spare detail parts.
