Shalom all,
I was searching for images of the recent Gaza crisis. I came up with pics of the latest creations on the IDF workshops, a heavily modified Magach 5 (M48).

I wonder what the full story is on that, especially the second pic with what must be a dummy gun tube.

Fascinating!
Totally agree on the dummy gun. Unless they really built a gun without any elevation/depression...

Do not speak of this! This is not for you to know about! There was a thread in the Modern AFV Discussion Group at M-L about this vehicle last year.

http://www.network54.com/Forum/47209/thread/1367840413/That+devil+is+this+%28IDF%29...-

I searched around and found that it is possibly a SPIKE Magach. It fires the Rafael NLOS Spike Missile, which has a range of 25km. It's based on the M48/M60.

Thanks for telling us everything about it
Now we only need to figure out how the launcher is arranged on the turret and if it is a M48 or M60 chassis ;-)

It's got the rounded front hull of an M48, not too hard to figure out.

Shoulda went with a turned barrel instead of a resin one.

This could be the next Dragon Black Label kit, they already have the M48 and nobody would know if the rest of it has any errors or not.....
But seriously folks, it would make a really neat model.

It would make a neat model, but it's too bad it doesn't exist. Word on the street is it's still highly classified and it also doesn't do what you think it does. We're also lucky we've got the pictures we do. Last time pics surfaced they all promptly disappeared.

There's a couple more pics here, including a shot from the rear. It looks pretty interesting and definitely seems to contain some sort of retractable sighting equipment, but hard hard to say whether it is 100% a SPIKE NLOS launcher as there are no clear shots with any launcher assembly visible.

Gun barrel is definitely dummy, you can see on some pics that its just bolted to a block on the central ERA unit.

Due to OPSEC, we'll be lucky if we find any new pics of this vehicle until it becomes declassified by IDF...

Russ,
If you go to the first page, the OP states that he is deleting pictures as the days go on so he doesn't overwhelm his Photobucket account. Go to page 8-10 to get the current shots. Lots shots of Merks II-IV, a couple more MAGACH Spikes, and even a closeup of a Doobi.

The riddle has been solved, the vehicle is called "Pereh" and serves as a platform for Spike NLOS missiles.

Best M48 on the market is the Dragon one, but its an A3. There is a Magach 3 conversion out for it though.

interesting thread at M-L for sure. It looks like a few of you guys got involved into the discussion. It seems that too many people take them a bit too seriously for our hobby.
It only started by someone asking "what is that?"...

I left this bunch YEARS ago.
