Now this is a good question to answer. I was primary driver on the duece and half, the pick-up truck, M113A2 & A3, and a hummv. Assistant driver on M151 & 5 ton. Guess I had some machinery under my ass.

Lets see!!! I am not a tanker, grunt, or a gun bunny. I'm just a support troop, but in my 12 plus years (and still serving), I've driven and was assigned a few different vehicles.
In 92-93, I took over as section chief, I was was only a new E-4. I was signed for 6 5 tons and 3 generators. I was also signed for a Blazer CUCV.
During DS my unit had to reload all the ships to come back home, so there we got to drive and get liscened on different vehicles. I drove the Bradley, M88, M113, M577, M548, different variants of Hummers, 5 Tons, and 2 1/2's. Myself and a female medic from our C Co. had to download 2 M113's, 2 M577, and 1 M548 from a C5 Galaxy on night and load them on flat bed trucks to take them to the Demam Port. What fun.
Now, in my National Guard unit, I am assigned 4 M1037 and 1 M998, 1 generator and 1 5Ton. Also being a 27E working on the TOW system of the Bradley, I am quilified on that too.
The Forward Support Battalion I was in with the 24th and the unit I am in now, the CO wants everyone to be quilified on all the equipment in the whole unit, not just in our sections.

Damn there sure are alot of you armor guys here. Where are all the Flyers at?
I have spent my time in the air on the HC-130P, MC-130P Combat Shadow and the MC-130H Combat Talon II. Hey also a quick question did you all name your armor like we name our Airplanes?

My HC-130P was "The Penetrator"
MC-130P was "Liquid Courage"
and My MC-130H is "The Forsaken"

Me well I am no tanker but I did drive all these Gama goat ,Jeep,D8K bulldozer,Roadgrader, 25 Ton crane, Dodge power wagon,2/12 ton one year in Korea plus 5 ton bridge truck, 10 ton truck, forklift, the last series of dump trucks back in the 1980's,
Contact truck, 27 foot boat erection don't ask me that is military specs.
Plus a few more that I can't remember!!

A funny moment was the 2/12 ton coming back from a field problem with Roc capt weaving in and out of our convoy ran him off the road OOPs
Plt sgt took my license away! And gave truck to E4 who said he could drive the hell out of it.
Next field problem he could not even back it up to the door with trailer on the back Plt sgt told him to get the 8888 out of it and me to get in here is my license back

The duce was the best great on those slick frozen roads in Korea #:-)
Followed by the Bulldozer great thing that was!!
Could of driven the M-113 and M-109s but got my orders to go to Germany before I could switch shops to replace power packs on these!

Spent most of my time with the 9th ID, 199th BDE (Motorized), and the 2nd ACR (LT) crewing a pair of LPCs and a M998 with the troop carrying Roll cage. When we were re-flaged the 2nd ACR we got some M1036s with TOWs.

Fortunately when I started my full time career with the Army National Guard I worked at a UTES (Unit Training Equipment Site). This is basically a large track park where we supported all types of units to include Armored Cav, Mech Infantry, Engineer Battalions & an Installation Support Unit which all boils down to me being able to operate a little bit of everything to include M60 series tanks, CEV's, M113 series, M88A1s, engineer equipment, M901A1s, M106A1s, just about any type of wheeled vehicles & the old M274 mules. I've had a fortunate career and have been able to move around a little, now I work at directorate level but I've been able to do a little bit of everything. I have to admit, my best days were in the Armored Cav with the M60A3 series tanks & those wonderful 88s!.

Once upon a time as a cub scout I saw an M48A1 at a Scout jamboree. Fourteen years later I joined the unit that had been at that Jamboree Bravo 1-102 Armor NJARNG.

I trained on M60A3TTS at Fort Knox returned to the unit to become loader on M48A5, most with scrapes and repairs from their Vietnam service as M48A3s.

After two years, we transitioned to M60A3TTS and I was slotted as a gunner though spent most of my time driving or loading due to the shortage of personnel during Annual Training.

As the army downsized, we joined another battalion as D 5-102(this battalion had the lineage of the 644 TD from WW2) and transitioned to the M1.

I was now a gunner and trained and certified as an Instructor eveluator M1 Conduct of Fire Trainer(COFT), and Tank Crew Evaluator and just as I was getting Instructor qualified, I had a car accident that messed up my neck and took a medical discharge. We also had joined the last NJ armor battalion as A 2-102 Armor.

Along tha way I also drove M113, M88, M109, M35 trucks and Hemmtt as well as CUCV and HUMMV, but the biggest thrill will always be going down range and busting caps

I was originally trained to crew an M109A3 but never actually made it there. I ended up in the Service Battery and drove a HEMTT hauling ammo for a bit. Then I took over the arms room and drove the XO's HUMMWV. I was also licensed on the 2 1/2 ton and the 5 ton but I didn't get out in those too often. Nothing real exciting

Hi ya'll,

During the Armor Officer Basic Course at Ft. Knox, a "few" years ago I go to drive, TC, gun and/or load on the M60A1, M551, M113 and M113A1, M106A1, and M114. Later as a platoon leader at Ft. Polk I had first the M60A1 (AOS), then as Scout Platoon Leader I had M113A1s.

In Germany, as Squadron and Battalion S-4, My vehicles were a M151A2 "Jeep" and an M577A1. Later as Company Commander at Baumholder, Germany, I got to play with the M901 ITV and M106A! in my Comabt Support Company and then as a tank company commander I had the M60A3 (TTS).

My last tour on active duty was at the National Training Center, Ft. Irwin, CA. When I wasn't running around in my 1/4-ton, I got to TC the OPFOR T-72 (modified Sheridan).

Now, in the Army Reserve, all I have are my LPCs (Leather Personnel Carriers - Boots).

When I was on active duty, I was the primary operator of a 35mm Canon ( then later a few Nikons, a Leica or two, even an old Hasselbad once).

I was a passenger in many, many vehicles -- M113-series, M60-series MBTs, M109 series, trucks of every shape and function (including a very sloshy fuel tanker through the mountains in Germany), on a swimming M163 Vulcan, Chapparal missile systems, various Hawk missile system vehicles, Hagglunds SUSV, etc. Also once rode into "combat" at the NTC in an OPFOR VISMOD Sheridan -- very cool, even after we were "killed." Also flew in many Chinooks, Hueys, a few Kiowas and Loaches, a Black Hawk, plus several Air Force C-130s and C-141s (went along on many airborne drops, as well as a landing on sea ice on the Bering Sea)..

As far as being an operator, the story is much less sexy. I was an outstanding duece-and-a-half driver, but also drove M151, M880, various humvees and a 5-ton.

In the Guard, I was re-classed as an 88M and was made ammo chief for an M109A3 battery -- in charge of a couple HEMMTs and their crews -- they did all the dirty work and I did all the paperwork. When I decided to leave the Guard, the battery leadership offered me a bribe to command one of the guns with a hand-picked crew. I did it for one day -- which included several fire missions and moves -- but felt like a jerk having the experienced gunner and the rest of the crew carrying my rookie-self along. I had too much respect for those gun bunnies to accept the job as their "leader."

Had a platoon of M60A1 Rise/Passive in H Company, 2nd ACR, other than the time in Officer Basic, where we shot Sheridans, drove 113A2's and other stuff. Loved that old piece of crap.

Served most of my time with A-1/124CAV 49th AD crewing M60A3 (did everything from load to TC/Platoon Sgt.) and M1IP (gunner).

Drove an M113A2 on a few occasions.

Also drove M151A2s, CUCVs (from pickup truck to ambulance), and those nasty old Dodge pickups/ambulances.

Licensed to drive nearly everything in the motor pool, but rarely drove anything other than the ones I mentioned.

While I did not do any actual military service, my Brother did serve in tanks. Yugoslav T-55s back in the 70's as a tank platoon commander to be exact. He loved his command tank: it had air conditioning!! On stand-down days in the warmer months, he'd drive it off somewhere, then park it, turn off the radios, turn on the A/C and have a snooze #:-)

As a grunt, it was Black Cadillacs and basic wheeled vehicles. Then driving 10 ton HLVW trucks, Grizzly AVGP (6 wheeled armour for infantry, LAV gen 1). Then became a Coyote turret operator (hence the callsign lavgnr) and tested the LAV 3s as a gunner. Now I'm a mechanic and get to drive a lot more, including M113 and Bisons, but especially the 16-ton HLVW wrecker! I love military vehicles, even the broken ones.

In my ever so brief service in the Finnish military, I crewed a ZU-23 'sergei' AA gun.
