Did the area pointed out with the red arrow have zimmerit on the Tiger (P)? I noticed Eduard provides a piece but my Atak set does not. It doesn't look like the Cavalier set does either. I could not make out whether it did or not from the few online pics I found of the real thing. thanks

Zimmerit was verticle surfaces only, so it shouldn't.
Then again the few (P) Tigers that were used for trials, and 003 aren't documented well so it isn't really "wrong" either.
Don't think any of the trials vehicles had zimmerit, there wasn't any point in adding it.

Thanks. I received a conflicting answer over at ML. Someone had a picture of 003 in the book Combat History of Schwere Panzer Abteilung 653 that apparently shows the shadows and outline of zimmerit there on page 374. Unfortunately I don't have that book to confirm it.

FYI ... Dragon announced a week or two ago that they're coming out with the Tiger (P) with zimmerit.

Thanks. I already have the Premium kit and zimmerit. I only saw the box art....wonder if they put zimmerit in that area?

Jason, I have the book. I checked out p.374 and the picture of 003 is exactly that, a picture (a color plate, not a photo). There is zimmerit shown on the area in question. Whether or not that is artistic license is another story. I don't recall seeing any zimmerit in the same area on the Elefants in that unit. Also, as was pointed out, zimmerit only was applied to vertical surfaces. Besides, anybody attempting to place a magnetic mine on the front would have been air conditioned by the hull MG long before they got close enough.

Thanks...I didn't realize it was a color plate. I thought it was an actual picture. I'll leave it off...makes sense. I did see a couple pics floating around of StuG IIIs with it on the horizontal surface, though. There isn't any context for the pictures though.

Air conditioned, I got a good laugh out of that.
Zimmerit could be done in field too, though it wasn't done often. Likely the crew applied it as a non-slip coating. It wouldn't be very effective if anyone did manage to get a mine on a flat surface seeing as it would just sit there and wouldn't need to be magnetized anyways.

Here is the only photo I found of it, from the excellent Panzer Tracts book. I don't see it there but I suppose an argument could be made. . .

Jason, I had that book some years back and I also found no evidence of that horizontal zimm..so I left it off too. I do my research and followed available references so I'm 99% certain.
If you need WIP photos I will dig it up form my External HD.
