hello,
I recentley recieved a Tamiya mid production tiger. Unfortunately, for me,all the decal options are of tigers with zimm aplied, my question is, are there any mid production tigers without zimmerit applied? Can somebody give me a picture?
Thanks!

Yes there were a few Mids without out Zimmerit ,but some of these tigers were still fitted with the grenade lauchers(S-minenwerfer) and you can still see that they have the mounting bolts for the fiefel air filters. Also they did not have the exterior mounted gun support ... Also the C clamps were not added till after the Zimmerit was started. Other things were they had just one headlight ,but it was still mounted like the earlies but just on the left side. Also these turrets had a pistol port plug...(corrected my post ) on the left side of the turret...replacing the M P Klappe. I know for sure that alot of these tigers went to the 506 in september of 1943 ...If you want to see a picture there is a picture and a color plate in the Osprey New Vanguard #5 Tiger I heavy tank 1942-1945 ... Hope this helps

This was discussed here last week or so...

Early mids had no zimm, as they contd to be built, they had zimm added.

Hi airwarrior, BELOW is a photo of a rare mid-production Tiger I without Zimmerit. It is from sPz Abt.501. I say rare because actually over 400 mid production Tiger all received Zimmerit at the factory There were about maybe 116 that didn't receive Zimmerit ! So almost all photo's we see of mid's are with Zimmerit !
( I know somebody is going to come along and say .... " Well - Duh ! All mids had Zimmerit " ). So let me explain - The mid production Tiger came into place when the turret redesign modifications got started in July 1943. And the mid production Tiger's did not receive Zimmerit until Sept 1943 ( obviously ! ). So there were 116 Tiger's that were delivered from " factory to field " in July & Aug 1943 which would have had the turret modifications classifying them as " mid production models ", but they would not have received the Zimmerit . The 116 that I mention is not an official number of mids with Zimmerit , but it's what I come up with when doing the math with the production charts
MID -PRODUCTION TIGER I .... NO ZIMMERIT sPz Abt.501
( I've updated my post. to 131 tigers delivered to 116 ) I made a mistake in my math when I took a second look at my chart . 116 is correct for July & Aug. 1943

Dave,
If you can wait a day or two I can show you a pic of my Mid Pro. Tiger (tamiya) With Zimm.
It was actually pretty easy to do it to. Let me know if you want to know how.
