I'm doing a 120mm knight and it comes with a resin base depicting a field what colours do you normally use for the base and should I paint it before adding some flock to make it look like grass or paint it instead any ideas how to get the flock to stick?

Well... depends on the turf itself... if it was a Knight in the Middle East crusades, the ground color would be quite a bit more sandy than a Scot Knight fighing on the dark sod of the highlands, right? So... give us just a wee bit more background, and we can be more specific...

As for adding grass.. again - much depends on time of year as well... if we are in the fall time in Germany, the grass would begin to fade out, while in the same time in Wales, it would still be nice and green, right?

Well, then, you get to choose...take a look at the soil outside your hoome and try to repliate that. And yes, I always paint the "soil," whether it's the kit's own base or my own mixture of Cewlluclay, before adding any grassy material. You mentioned flock, consider making a trip to the LHS to check out some railroad or regualr hobby materials. Woodland Scenics and Hudson and Allen are good brands to consider.
