Howdy everyone,
I recently picked up Ak interactive's OIF and OEF weathering washes and have read on here to get the best result they should be thinned with white spirit. The packaging says best result with the AK product, but I was wondering if there was a cheaper hardware store alternative to the ak product.
Thanks a bunch

In Canada,"white spirits" are labeled as "mineral spirits". They can be purchased cheaply at CTire, Wmart etc.....and note that these have a pronounced smell to them.
You can also look for the odorless type in art shops.
Cheers,
Joe

Mineral spirits = white spirits which
Mineral Spirits is an oil based product, used to thin enamel or oil paints.
You can use it to create washes.
Beware , if you let it sit too long on the model it will loosen the glue ..some cases attack the plastic.
You find it at any hardware store...Lowes, Home Depot , WalMart etc..
You could use it , it is cheaper but just don't let it sit too long on the model.

Best protect the surface of the model acrylic varnish, and nothing would happen to him.

Anyone have any success with Krylon Varnish?
Gent's I understand what the White?Mineral Spirits are used for, I am looking for a commonly used brand besides the Ak Interactive one.

I use Klean Strip odorless mineral spirits. This is the brand sold in my local Walmart.
I buy it in the gallon jug, and that lasts me for several years. I've never noticed any detrimental effects of this long storage / use. The last ounce would seem just as good as the first.
It's pretty mild stuff, and it doesn't seem to harm any plastic that I've put it on. I don't tend to flood the surface with washes, though. I'm quite a bit more judicious than some other modelers with how I apply washes and filters as a matter of controlling the effects and outcome. Despite its name, it does have some mild odor, but I don't find it objectionable.
I use this thinner for artist oils and, while I still used them, brush painting Model Master enamels. (For airbrushing Model Master, I used their proprietary airbrush thinner.) I've also used the Klean Strip mineral spirits with AK Interactive's (pre-Mig Ammo) streaking effects paints with good results.
Anyways, since you asked for a brand name, that's what I use.
