Hey Everyone, I was thinking about building a Panzerhaubitze 2000 from Meng and I was thinking about making it a vehicle used by either the Dutch or Germans in Afghanistan. I was wondering if I may trouble someone to provide me with some reference pictures of the vehicle in Afghanistan. Both German and Dutch examples are greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Tried looking up my fellow dutch country men. I might be wrong but it looks like the Dutch 2000's there are still in NATO 3 tone.

have fun

I think issue 5 of Abrams Squad had some pictures of the 2000 in desert camo (German). The thing I noticed was that it was only two tone not the normal 3 tone. It was the sand beige and the olive.

If you search for issue 5 some of the teaser photos they give have the 2000 in it. Here is where I found it.

Samuel

If you're planning to build a Dutch PzH 2000 in Afghanistan, all the pics I've seen so far show them fitted with add-on armor on the turret top and the front hull, like the one below :

You can find some nice Afghanistan hi-res pics on Flickr :

Thank you very much everyone for your help. This is really a lot of information.

@Jedge3, 66fastback and Frenchy: Based on what I have gathered, it looks like my best bet is to go with the German version since Meng didn't appear to have included the add on armor that the Dutch version seems to have. However, I may be wrong in this assumption.

Lastly, if I may pose one more question, suppose I am going with the German version of the 2000, do I need to include the ISAF logo on the vehicle like the Dutch? Thanks again everyone.

Here are some pics of German SPH's in Afghanistan :

I guess the two tone camo was applied after their arrival in Afghanistan :

These are fitted with the add-on armor (I guess it would be something quite tricky to replicate in 1/35th scale ) :

No visible ISAF markings...

I think I spotted at least one gun w/o bombet armor based down there.

Looks like the first three pics show them without add-on armor ("Igelpanzerung"). I guess it was a later upgrade...The picture of the new paint job was taken on January 27, 2011.

Here's another one :

If you don't want to scratchbuild the add-on armor, maybe you could cover your SPG with camo net :

Even more pics of the PzH 2000 SPH (and not SPG ) :

Paint job . It seems that some markings like the German flag and the ISAF/NATO emblem (?) beside it that can be seen in this link have been sprayed over later...

Unfortunatly, it`s no camo net but Barracuda MCS. Equally hard to build from as the Igelpanzerung

Igelpanzerung- at least it has a cute name. Does anyone have an idea how to replicate this? The only thing that comes to my mind would be 3D printing- which I find not feasable.

In fact I had originally typed "Barracuda" instead of "camo" but I wasn't 100 % sure about it I agree it would be on par feasibility-wise....

Thank you so much for your help Frenchy. That is indeed a lot of pictures. I guess the fundamental question is, were the first 3 pictures of the German PzH 2000 taken in January 2011? The way I see it is that if they were indeed taken around that time, then it would be safe to assume that the add on armor is optional, or at least not as common. This would make construction a lot simpler. Thanks again Frenchy.

I have a few pics of the PzH2000 in Afgahnistan that were taken in 2012. While I've been asked not to share them by the person who took them, I can say that none of them had the add on armor, and were painted in two tone sand and green. None have ISAF markings. There is a great thread on Military Photos for the German ISAF forces, if I could find the link I would share it.

In this vidcap, from a Bundeswehr video posted on Youtube in February 2012, you can see one PzH 2000 with add-on armor in the background and one without in the foreground :

Tankograd Militärfahrzeug Spezial No 5031 contains a couple of pics of a single PzH 2000A1. The vehicle has the license plate Y-414028 and is painted in Sandbeige RAL 1039 F9 and Helloiliv
RAL 6040 F9. Further marking are:
1. German Eisenes Kreuz ion the turret sides
2. German national flag on the hull below the Eisernes Kreuz
3. NATO/ISAF marking on hull sides
4. Letter "G" in white on turret rear.
Interestingly the vehicle has no Igelpanzerung attached.

It`s a standard safety procedure when the gun was maintained. All large caliber guns are fired with a long lanyard after amintenance

Thanks for your help everyone; y'all made my Monday =D. I think it's safe to conclude that the add on armor is simply an optional addition to the vehicle.

@HermannB, I think Tankograd Militärfahrzeug Spezial No 5031 might have gotten its picture from the Bundeswehr video too. The picture in H.P's post looks pretty close to the one that you were describing. It could just be a coincidence, but the similarities are rather striking.

With this option, we can use any tank, nobody will see the difference !
