Working on USMC OIF TOW Hummer. Looks like some vehicles retain the brush guard and some dont. Kit calls for it to be removed. Any rhyme or reason to this or pretty much anything goes?
Thanks in advance!!!

HMMV Brushguard:
This fit was an ARMY Mod done in 97', as a result of Vehicle Battle Damage Assessment procedures. Some vehicles have it and some dont. There is also
a suspension undercarraige kit available in 1/1, that I have only seen on HMMV's in Germany and California NTC. This has never been done in plastic.

Hello,
There isn't any reason not to install the brush guard on the Tamiya M1046. The only reason I can think they would say not install it is because three of four vehicles in the Painting and Marking area of the instructions show vehicles without brush guards. However, one version does show the brush guard fitted. I think the another reason is in the past you didn't see that many HMMWV equipped with winches fitted wih brush guards as opposed to w/o winch models fitted with brush guards. The brush guard in the Tamiya kit is a brush guard that has almost seemed to become common sight on most HMMWVs in recent years. Of course there a rather good amount of brush guards fabricated at unit maintenance facilities, some of these things can be monsters of guards. But, in the end you would be safe installing the kit brush guard on the M1046. A great source of photos with the exact comibination you want is in Concord's HMMWV ,Workhorse of the U.S Army.

Thanks for the info guys.
377: I have that Concord and there's a real mix of different guards on the USMC and Army Vehilces. In the Concord OIF book there is also a mix of Brush guards on Army and USMC vehicles. However, the TOW version really doesn't show up clearly.
I'l gonna put it on as it give another place to hang some gear.
Thanks!!!
