Having been given different answers, I wonder whether anyone can tell me the exact function of the three ducts on the rear of the Abrams tank? Presumably, the middle one is the main exhaust outlet ... hence the heavy discoloration. As for the ones on either side ... how do these operate?

The right and left side are oil coolers and they work just like the radiator on your car. Air is polled in through the vents on the top deck and blown through the radiators to cool the oil and trans fluid and blown out the back. The center is the hot exhaust (up to 1500 degrees) outlet.
