I'm not going to use any, this AFV was a prototype / experimental vehicle so they didn't make to many of them. The guns except maybe the main one were most likely dummies. This vehicle wasn't meant for combat.

Nope, it was fully equipped with real weapons.

It the real gun was that big, it's a wonder anyone could fit in the turret.

This kit just has a recess with a square slot in it.

Is that a 3" gun like in the M10? You mean Dragon just forgot the periscopes??

Yes it's the 3 inch gun. Dragon left out a lot in this kit, and a lot of the others are mis numbered.

Darn it, now I'm going to have to find some guns for it. Does anyone know if the two in the lower front hull were 30 or 50 cal. ?

The bow guns on the production vehicles were 50 cals. As an aside they actually made 40 production tanks of three sub types (M6, M6A1 and T1E1) starting in 1942 with the last delivered in Feb 1944 ......

cheers

The last 2 pics before the paint shop.

Above shows the location of the wire conduit for the front lights. The numbers on the instructions are wrong.

I drilled out the ends of the tow cable ends, & super glued the wire into the end of 1 , then placed the end and cable into its proper position , cut the cable to the correct length and fastened the remaining end in place.
I don't really trust Dragon to get the lengths right.
It worked good.

Now for the painting and finishing.

Donald-- I am now almost caught up with you on the build. I am about to install the outer wheels with the main hull road wheels. I am having one of those senior moments. If you align the outer wheels with the inner set, can you then get the guide holes in the skirts to align? How did you attach the track?

Thanks again

Hi DJ
Check out Pic #13 & #14 from the beginning of this build.
You should press fit the wheel units into the hulls side and the corresponding units into the outer armor plate. don't glue yet.
After they are press fit in place line up the outside armor plate so the recesses in it match the boxes projecting from the hull starting with the sprocket and working your way forward. Be sure to match the inner and outer wheel sets up as you go. Don't forget to add the sprocket or you won't be able to get it in. After it is all lined up GLUE.
Hope this helps.
Donald

Oh yes, don't forget the return rollers.

Man I'm really getting old.
The track will just stretch over the whole assembly, the fit is pretty good, but if you want it snugger you could always remove a track shoe. I think it's fine as is.

So the M6 series. Were they designed to replace the M4? Or supplement them?

I am pretty sure the M-6 pre dates the M-4 development

Well I'm finally finished with this one.
I have 20 Pics. to post including 4 with a size comparison with a Fire Fly that I built previously.
Please bear with me while I get them posted.

No these pioneer tools don't come with the kit. They are from Formations.

Here is the size comparison with a Tasca Fire Fly.

That's all for now, or at least tomorrow.

Very nice looking build and said before - great assembly shots. While I can't vouch for the turret shape it certainly looks much better visually anyway, with a little clearance for the front hatches. The MV lens and Formations tools add to it too. It's just a shame they couldn't include Gen2 quality tools and a bit of clear lens plastic, it wouldn't have broken their bank and it would have saved us time and money.

Anyway - great job!!!

Donald--- outstanding workmanship on a challenging model. I personally like the vehicle, think the instruction leave much to be desired, and benefited greatly from your insights.
Thanks very much

The M6 was always a "Heavy" tank and was to operate alongside whatever was the standard Medium Tank. As the M6 was being developed that Medium Tank was initially the M3 and then shifted to the M4, but by the time the M6 was ready for initial production, in late 41, 42, the M4 was obvioulsy not that much less effective than the M6 and was far easier to build and ship. Essentially the Armored Force lost interest and the program slowly fizzled out. Interest shifted to the T20 programs first as better mediums than the M4 and then as an interim heavy tank as the T26.

But that, as they say, is a different story...
