Hi,

I am just wondering which would be the best colour/technique to achieve the slightly greyish/metallic tone of the modern guns like the 0.50 cal, etc.

I mean the basic colour and not the wear.

Thank you,

Adam

I use tamiya NATO black ( though any really dark grey will
Work.) . Then I use mig steel powder to buff the highlights. Give it a cover coat of gloss, hit it with a dark brown wash (thinly) then dull coat. .50 cals come out awesome this way. Hope this helps.

Tamiya has a new color called XF-84 Dark Iron. seens like a good choice for weapons and tracks.

Well it really depends on what the surface treatment of the full size weapon is.

Gunze Mr Metal color dark iron is great for most finishes, but particularly phosphated (parkerized) finish. Nato black is good for black powder coated finishes. Many Aluminium parts are anodised black, which is fairly shiny.

The other day I was painting with a 50:50 mix of Vallejo Black Grey (168) and Glossy Black (170) which gave me a nice satin dark grey similar to an M2's color.

Should be a good base for a weapon.

I use a mix of humbol flat black (33) and metalcote 27003. it gives a nice flat finish close to Parkerizing. then a dry brush of aluminium or silver to bring out wear
