Serial base truck ZIL-131 was equipped with a very perfect for the time overhead valve carbureted engine ZIL-131 V8 (5,97 l, 150 hp) with a more powerful fuel pump and filtration system, switchable cooling fan, engine block heater shielded and sealed electrical equipment. Power unit with all the equipment and dry single disc clutch weighed 510 kg and from an experienced V6 engine differed reduced from 108 to 100 mm diameter cylinders. By synchronized 5-speed gearbox added a two-stage transfer case with a mechanism for automatically switching on and off the front wheel drive with ball joints of equal angular velocities. Application of an average flow of the bridge allowed to place casings double main gear along the central axis of the machine and restrict the use of only three driveshafts. With lorry ZIL-130 were unified power steering gear and pneumatic drive wheel drum brakes. The front suspension on the extended semi-elliptic leaf springs with telescopic hydraulic shock absorbers supplied with a dual action of the suspension made the equalizer. Under it on both sides were two fuel tanks with capacity of 170 liters, installed on all wheels extended vosmisloynye tire size 12,00 - 20, one spare tire mounted behind the cab next to the box for the folded tent.
