More kit bash bits have arrived (Academy King Tiger, last production) and yet another rejigging of the turret + swapping out the engine hatches / cooling vents. Also changed the main gun to a 12.8cm. First proper kit bash and finding it fun and worryingly addictive. Starting look like a what if along the lines of a King Tiger that mated with the Lowe and produced a mutant off-spring... Turret still needs a lot filler / sculpting around the edges of the top plate etc.

"Epic" describes that gun quite well. As it has now morphed almost beyond regonition as the Lowe and now has a number of Tiger II bits perhaps I should rename Tion, Lowger??

Next challenge is work out which tank groups / battalions would have been operational in 1946/7 had the war gone the other way, perhaps an old one reformed etc.

Thanks for the thumbs up - this project is starting to feel as epic as the gun I've fitted. Always seems to one more thing to do.

Borderline pornographic / obscene in length...

Debating whether to shorten the barrel a wee bit. Stylistically I think yeah bring it on but reality would probably beg to differ.

The Tiger II bits I'm adding are going well as is the final shaping of the turret. I am adding layer of perfect putty and then modelling / shaping it. Found out the hard way that too much in one is not a good thing, it tends too crack when drying out.

Diorama thoughts - "quite" English country lane or a well known street in a devastated London...

Epic! that turret looks awesome. It would have to go to one of the Waffen SS divisions. They always got the latest kit. if it was going to the East then 5th SS Wiking would be a safe bet one of the best tank battalions the SS had. Otherwise Grossduschland was the herr's Elite division,or maybe one of the newer Pnz Div like Munchanburg, depending on how your "What If 46" scenario was to play out. Cant wait to see the Turret mated to the hull. Hope it gets the I.R treatment, those Fruil's look great also the rear crank setup looks like a must. Cheers Geraint

Nice - cheers for the pointers. I am thinking of IR - just looking to source some, the set I was looking for seems to be sold out everywhere I look. Was thinking of buying a dragon kit to source it as recommended on an earlier post.

I was erring to Waffen SS, as you said they seemed to get all the new toys. My scenario was probably going to be along the lines of either a mop up operation on the beaches of Normandy or set in England (London street setting) after a successful invasion.

Too late - I was brave and shortened it. I based it on roughly would vanish into the tank based on the cannon set-up of the trumpeter kit for the 12.8cm kanone 43 bzw.44 (Krupp) kit (part of project Waffentrager sitting on my bench). Not quite so epic but it does look more in proportion and scales up nicely when set along side a Tiger II.

Maybe outside No 10 The Sky is the Limit when it comes to painting and decals 46 panzer's Thats part of the fun with these beasts. Maybe one of the Heavy Panzer Batt's? If its at Normandy then Panzer div Lehr was looking for some payback, they were also one of Germany's strongest divisions

An amazing beast

The only thing that looks odd to me is the huge shot-trap of the turret back and the difficulty the crew will face to close that rear hatch when opened over the hull.
I guess it would need more height to accomodate the internal stuff of that massive gun, but let's ignore that since the germans might have been able to solve that issue...

If you are going for a dio, I strongly suggest to place infantry support to give some protection against AT fire from behind
I expect to see your final result and some paint on this animal!!

Latest bits done - some additional turret detailing courtesy of an Academy Tiger II kit. I've shortened the barrel. I think this give the turret a more balance / proportionate look.

Grey used to show up the flaws - more filler and sanding in order.

A few new shots - Some more adding what the postman delivered direct from Kraut Kits. Thank you Kraut Kits for adding the front Tiger II two hatches I had just fudged a kit bash version of the same so it was just what the doctor ordered.

Rear idlers + stowage sorted.

Tiger II style front hatches.
