Hi everyone,
I need to make some room for more current builds. So hoping not bore you guys I will be posting some older dios before they are dismantled or stored in the garage.I hate to do it,but after years they tend to take up a ton of space. At first most of mine were rather on the large size but I've learned to minimize the sizes.
Here's the first.

Nice scene, Tom.. I like both buildings. Are they kits or scratched? And that palm tree looks pretty good too, how'd you make it?

Hi Hisham,
Everything is scratch built.
The buildings are styrofoam, balsa wood, small dowels and coffee stir sticks. The windows are clear acrylic from packages, cut to shape and then I use a pin point to scratch shatter lines in them.Tops on the fence are plastic covers for Xmas minilites and the dome on the roof is half of a plastic Easter egg.
The palms take time, but pretty easy to do.The trunks are actually just branches I found with a palm look to them. The leaves are store bought artificial plants.I find ones that are all leaves ,the right size and shape and then cut slits on both sides.Best to find ones that have the wire made into them, saves a lot of time not having to add your own.Small holes drilled into the trunk, leaves glued in and done.

So, you make the basic structure of the building with foam, then you cover the walls with plaster? If so, is that easy? Does the plaster stick to the foam sheets?
Looking forward to seeing more of your dioramas

Well balanced scene!!
Nice scratching jobs on the houses!
Congrats Sir!!
I would just stop using that foam to portray foliage in 1/35 scale. It is fine for H0, but bigger....!!!!
Cheers

Actually Hisham the foam is mostly not even covered with plaster.Insulation foam takes very well to paint and bricks, shell damage etc can be carved into it.The majority of my buildings (not these) are done with foamcore .With those I spread slightly watered down Polyfilla with my finger tip.
Forgot to add at the start that wallpaper and floor tiles, which are hard to see in these pics were added from
http://www.printmini.com/printables/.A dollhouse site for pintables.Comes in very handy.

The only foam boards I've been able to find here is a kind that architects use and is sandwiched in between two layers of thin cardboard.. which I have found very difficult to peel off.. I wonder if it would look OK if I use it with the outer layer? Anyway. do you glue the foam together with white glue, or is there any special kind of glue for foam?
Thanks for helping out with the answers

I saw this site for modelling foam ... Is this similar to the kind you use? I need to e-mail them to see if they ship to Egypt!
