Hello,

do you have any suggestion for the colour of the Jagdtiger Y, from Abt. 512:

http://de.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=5x7wiok&s=1#.U_22szJ_uQx

In a Concord booklet I found the information that this Jagdtiger was coloured in Dark Yellow with big green patches.
Another idea which I found is dark yellow, green and red brown/red: http://libellule.heavy.jp/site/illustrations/G-Jagdtiger/G-JagdTiger-Y-3-sPzJgAbt512-Paderborn-germany-2april1945.jpg

My idea is that on the tank body are two colours, a dark one and a light one. The wheels are in a much lighter colour compared to the body...

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

The tank in the first two pictures looks like it's wearing a three color scheme on it. In the 2nd picture, the patch of paint on the right, behind the guys, is a darker color than what's showing between them, but is lighter than the color after that. It shows in the first pic, but is harder to see because of the grainy texture of the print.

The wheels also look like they might be camo'd. Again, the graininess of the 1st pic makes it difficult to pick out. It really shows on the sprocket, though you can make out some tonal variations on some of the other wheels, too.

I personally think it's only a dunkelgelb and olivgrun pattern with quite a bit of dust on it. The roadwheels also look to be dunkelgelb with the exception of the front right drive wheel which is probably olivgrun.

One interesting bit on the second photo shows that the top left and right spare tracks have three links while the bottom row and center top are two links each. Don't think I've seen that yet.

In the french magazin Batailles & Blindes n°61 there is a colours profile of Jagdtiger Y and shows a three tone camo, yellow-green-brown.
In your first picture i think to see a three colours camouflage.
If you see around first couple of spare tracks from right, it is possible to see three colours;medium at right, light in the center and dark at left....green, yellow and brown

I would go with overall Olivgrun, with a hard-edged disruptive pattern of Rotbraun and Dunkelgelb (orders called for Olivgrun to be applied first at that stage of the war, though not all factories complied--however, Ni-werk vehicles in other photos appear to have a dark base color). The light color of the wheels would likely be road dust or mud build up.
The letter Y is associated with Otto Carius' company. Unlike Company X, Company Y appears not to have applied individual numbers. The 512th battalion's companies operated independently, and reportedly, the company commanders never even met each other. The incomplete third company appears never to have marked their vehicles at all, though they used the regulation 3-- numbering system in their reports. They were isolated from the rest of the unit, being stationed in the Harz Mountains awaiting the rest of their equipment. Had they joined the battalion, presumably they would have become Company Z.

That particular Jagdtiger "Y" is a late model, so most likely overall Olivegrun.
