I am currently building an m1151 set in Afghanistan. I am adding the Legend US Vehicle crew set.

So I am moving the figure painting to this forum. The vehicle build blog can be found in the armor/AFV forum. Here is the link:

For the figures, I decided to go with the ACU pattern. I am going to try ( for the first time) Sinsengumi uniform decals. Let´s see how this goes.

I followed a video on you tube (only one I found). small pieces at a time:

I was really pleasantly surprised at how simple and straight forward it is. And how much detail shows through the decal!
My only complaint is that if you look very closely, you can get to see the printing dot pattern. But it si not so bad.

I used small pieces of decal at a time and a lot of Micro Sol. Don't try to force the decal into place. Let the Micro sol soften it several minutes. It should get the consistency of rubber and with a Q-tip push it into place. Once you have absorbed pretty much most of the liquid with the Q-tip start using your finger (my thumb works best) to force the decal to mold to details. Again, do it one small part at a time, otherwise you run the risk of having the decal stick to your finger. Once I am done with the figure I give it a coat of Vallejo´s Decal Fix.

in this figure, I decided to cheat a little. Since the figure came with so much detail on the vest, I decided not to go with the decal and go with a khaki vest and pouches. Which I have seen on active personnel in Afghanistan.

Looks pretty good. A couple historical pointers though. The ACU hasn't been worn in A'stan since about '07. Since then, US Army troopers have worn the Multi-Cam pattern. Additionally, the bullet-proof vest should be the same camo pattern as the uniform.

Multi-cam

Well it seems to fit very well and i would like to try some! Where have you bought them? None of my usual online shops seems to provide sinsengumi.
Thanks.

Here you can order Shinsengumi in europe: http://www.modellbau-koenig.de

Also you can use Decals from Crossdelta. They can be ordered at Luckymodel.

Having experimented with these before I found you can get tonal variation with different under coats on the figures...

For the interior to be appreciated, I left the top unglued so that it can be removed:

I think I am going to go with a diorama with this vehicle. Any ideas?
Now, I do have some complaints on the legends figures. They did not have a perfect fit on their seats. I had to work on that a little. The gunner’s hand/arm position did not match the .50 cal grip no matter what I tried. Same goes for driver and steering wheel, so I ended up putting the hand over the steering wheel, making it look a bit funny. The detail on the faces is not as good as in other Legend figures. But overall I think they came out ok.
What I am fascinated with is the sinsengumi decals. They were very easy to use. And the result is very good. They just take a bit longer than painting. My only complaint there would be that on extreme close ups the printing dot pattern is noticeable. But they are great. I will be using them in the future again.
