I found this listing by chance. How good is said kit, and would it work for a circa 1962 vehicle, either for the USSR or any Warsaw Pact nation?

The kit is great. I reviewed the AT version. The base vehicle is very detailed and looks great. It should be fine for what you want to depict as well since it was in production from '54 through '72.

True..I have two more. Tonda vacu-good shape poor detail and Armo resin+ pe. Armo, totally misshaped but with perfect PE parts.
Bronco is as mentioned great.
End of production is not end of use. I had in my army time in 88th one piece among UAZs

No, the exact version GAZ-69M was produced from 1959 (according to other data - from 1960).

If it was only produced in '59 or '60, I'm sure it was still in service in '62. So it would still be good.

Which leads to another question. Did only the USSR use it, or any Warsaw Pact nations have it then too?

East German NVA used them and the 2P26 version as well.

Yes, of course !
GAZ-69 vehicles officially were exported to 56 countries ! For example, to Finland, East Germany, Poland, Syria, Czechoslovakia, Egypt, etc.

Besides, they were produced in North Korea and Romania (ARO IMS57, ARO M59, ARO M461, which also were exported - for example, to China and Colombia) under license.

Since I have the kit in hand, I noticed the instructions feature an East German as well as a Soviet version. They mention the same color for each. Since East German armor was a lighter green than the Soviet green, I presume that is an error? (Yes I want to build the East German version.)

Not really sure it was lighter, just a different shade. I don't think the NVA ever changed the green they used so I use this picture whenever I mix paint for my NVA models.

I looked up the color chart links and noticed that East German Green RAL was comparable to FS34102 Testors medium green 1913. Anyone agree or disagree?
