Nice review, James. Plus makes some STRANGE stuff. Can't exactly imagine using these except in an ambulance model....

Put it in the back of a cargo truck along with other medical supplies, or the Bronco grasshopper. PlusModel does stretch the imagination of the modeler.

They look really nice. They mis-named them though. US insulated containers are called Mermite Containers.

Marmite is a yummy spread that goes well on toast.



If you leave the blood bank decals off of them, they can be used a mermite hot/cold insulated food containers too. That was their more common use.

Bill and Russ, yes...PlusModel does have us use our imagination for some of these sets. Luckily these have dual purpose as food containers too, although the stencils are not included for those.

Gino, I believe both spellings are correct (I was going to add mermite in parenthesis but thought it might be confusing).

Our French friends will hopefully correct me if I'm wrong, marmite is the French spelling and since many of these were shipped to France to use their extensive refrigeration systems, they adopted that spelling. Marmite describes a large earthenware or metal cooking pot, which is where the yeast spread took its name.

Long story short, I've seen these referred to in both terms for the ETO Blood Bank (more so as marmite) and mermite more for the insulated food container, although these are also referred to as marmite.

Hmmm, you learn something new every day.

Gino I never thought I would see the day an American would refer to Marmite as a Yummy spread, and you eat it on toast. Treat yourself and try welsh rabbit (Cheese on toast) with Marmite.
